Amp Rack Stage 1

My amp rack is completed and fits nicely. The corners were a biotch but it will do what I need it to.

Have a look at:

I'll add updates as I get further into the project. So much to do, so little time......

Cheers.

Looks good, man!

BTW, where can I find some of the trunk material that you used to cover up the MDF?

I just went to the local car audio shop and bought a 36" x 60" piece of gray subwoofer box material for $12. They wouldn't sell it in smaller pieces. Oh well, shyt happens. I really needed half that but I had to do what I had to do.

You should be able to do the same thing at your local car audio shop. Just ask for some box carpet. I'm sure it could be found even cheaper than that. Maybe one of the more knowledgeable folks on this board will be able to direct you to a cheaper source.

Cheers.

Looks good....

Will the amps be visible once mounted, or will they be mounted on the back side of the board?

They will be visible. The board fits almost flush against the seat back so there isn't really enough room behind it to mount them.

I was originally going to build one that would have the amps hidden but I figured this would be easier and still give me quick access to them if I needed to get to them for some reason.

actually, you can go to home depot to the carpet dept and ask for gray trunk liner. they will know what you are talking about. officially, its called islander gray. it is the same thing but only costs about $1.67LF or so...that is 1'x6'...not bad at all....jeje

Damn! don't tell me that Systek! OK, I'll deal with the fact that I spent WAY too much on my carpet. I knew it was BS when they told me. BUT I had to do what I had to do. The amp rack is built and covered. The carpet was more expensive than the wood!!

Thanks Systek for telling us how to get it cheaper. I figure every dime counts!!

Check out my page to see the amps mounted and my pictorial of the installation of a rear spoiler for a TL-S.

I think it's about an hour and a half or so. I haven't made the drive in a while.

my amp rack looks similar, but i have the amps facing forward, so u can see them partially through the ski hole.

as for the super cheap trunk lining material, aka, trunk carpet...yep, that stuff is pretty much everyday stocked material at all the home depots ive ever gone into...so at least you'll save money next time around.

as for select products, i find their prices used to be way too high. dont know how they fair now, but w/this cool tool called the internet, you can pretty much find just about anything being sold by anyone, so going to select products would be better doing so only as an absolute last resort, or you have money to burn...(in which case, i'll do the research and ya can pay me!!! )
