amp question
amp question
i just bought 1 10 inch XTANT model # X1044 and was wondering how big of an amp to get to drive them safely. i know it is better to power them more than underpower them because damage can occur. it is a 4 ohm sub that takes 500 watts RMS. i am unsure on how this whole amp thing works with bridging and what not for the setup. if an amp is rated at 500 watts RMS for 2 ohms, would that not work? thanks for any input and suggesions are def welcome.
What you have there is a dual 4 ohm voice coil sub. Which means, you can either have a final load of 2 or 8 ohms. 8 ohms is not really a good option, unless you are using to subs, so, 2 ohm would be best. Just my opinion but, I would look at something with at least 500 watts rms. One option is a good sub amp that puts out max power at 2 ohms. I use a JL 500/1 which puts out 500 watts into 1.8-4 ohms. But, there are others that are rated at 250 watts @ 4 ohms and will double to 500 into 2 Ohms. The JBL BP600.1 puts out 300 @ 4ohms and 600 @ 2 ohms. Alot depends on your budget and if you have a brand preference. Xtant makes great amps as well. Again, just my opinion.
