amp ques

i plan on getting either 2 12inch L7's or L5's and i dont know whta i need to power them....i was thinking one 1200.1 or 2 600.1...will that be enough for the L7's?....any other suggestion would be helpful...it doesn thave to be a kicker amp..thats just what i was looking at...

The bass u are doing is kinda overkill for me but heres my advice.
First u got great products that u are using. Are u gonna be using a sealed enclosure? The kicker 1200. 1 will give u about 1300 to 1350 watts. Either choice of woofers would be good . ANd everyone will tell u to go with the L7's. I personallly would go with the L5', due to u wont push the L7s to there pull potential. I have a single L5 with 600 watts. I have a sealed and a vented box. THe Solobaric have to be the least effiecnt woofers ever and when in my small sealed box it sounds nice and clean but wish it was louder. When in Vented WHOA! waht a difference. Its like a whole new setup.

wow...will vented really help that much?...i heard vented boxes make loud but sloppy bass..i dont want that..i want loud (almost obnoxious) and decent SQ...what type of box should ui get for that?
oh..and what do you mean by least efficent? does it sound like it puts out less then what it should be?

and so your saying that a 1200.1 would be suffcient for 2 L5's? but i would need some more if i want to push L7's to their full potential? would i be able to realy work the L5's with the 1200.1?

A properly vented enclosure can give a significant boost in output over a selaed, with the same power. Which sounds better is just a matter of opinion. A badly built sealed or vented enclosure can sound really bad. dnd2984 is correct in that 2 12" L7's will be a ton of bass. With the proper power, they could easily hit that "obnoxious" level you want. If you bought a pair with dual 2 ohm voice coils, you could wire them up to present a 2 ohm load to your amp. The 1200.1 would certainly fit the bill. It just depends how extreme you want to go. You could probably get dual 4 ohm voice coils and 2 1200.1 and run one sub per amp. It all just depends on how much bass you want. Hope that helps.

ok..so dual 2 ohm voic coils would be best for a singel 1200.1? and this would work well? it wont be under powered or anything?

ok i would have to disagree with the who kicker solo thing... 1st off speakers were built circular for a reason... (sound wave propagate in a circular pattern using a square speaker with naturally distort the sound waves... you will also get non linear movement of the cone....) me personally i think that you would be way better off going with either say 2 jl audio 12w6v2 subs and the jl 1000/1 or maybe even 2 12 idmax subs powered by a phoenix gold tantrum 1200.1.... either one of these set ups would give you just as much spl as the kicker l5 or l7 with way better sq....

In my opinion yes. You would have to wire each subs voice coils in series then, wire the 2 subs together in parallel or vice versa. This would give your amp a 2 ohm load and each sub would get around 600 watts. Yes, they could handle more but, with one amp, this would do nicely. Tons of bass. I have one 10" L7 with about 600 watts and it is more than enough for me.

Shawhite.....I will not argue with you on that. I just offered suggestions based on his question. I would take the ID Max in a second over the Kickers. But, it is hard to beat Kicker squares for all out bang for the buck. ID and JL are quite a bit higher than the Kickers.

I got a 3.cuft box. IT sounds aweosme. I hear ever bass note. THere use to be a misconspetion of how ported was sloppy but if its properly built it will sound good. TO other people who hear my system have quoted as one of the cleanest. Personly it sounds like to 12s in a sealed box. If u go vented get the L7s and say goodbye to your trunk. If uget the sealed 2 L7 or L5 will sound the same. I am sayin L7 in the vented due to they have little bit more excursion have the L5. but only by .05mm. The 2 L'7 in a vented will be pretty damn loud.

I have a friend with a ford focus SVT hatchback and he Hit 149db wit one 12 L7 and 1100 watt memphis amp. His box takes up the whole hatch its about 3.5 CUft. about a month ago he added one more L7 and another 1100 watt amp and this time he hit 150db. Honestly for me one 12 does the job and him not beign so smart and not knowing anty physics and way sound works got pissed and returned the L7, the dual box and amp.

I agree with you 100% IF i could go back I would have saved the extra cash more one more month and would have gotten 500/1 and 12W7

Wait he is talking about a Kicker KX 1200.1 correct
the 1200.1 give 1200x1 at 1ohm mono
and 600x1 at 2 ohm

So NJtls u would need 2 dual 4 ohm woofers. Wire each woofers voice coils in parallel. So each woofer is 2ohm and then again in parallel to teh amp presenting a 1 ohm load.

Also very tru. good bang for the buck. honestly the Sq isnt so bad on my L5. Also like the fact that when I pop my trunk and theres only one 12.

yeah i agree the jl and id are alot more expensive... i have never really been a big fan of kicker so i am a little biased... dnd as for 1 12w7 and the 500/1 that is exactly what i was going to do until about 2 weeks ago when i heard that same set up and determined that it was way to much bass for me.. so i stepped down to 1 12w6v2 and the 500/1... if you know anyone who is interested in a brand new 12w7 i have mine for sale... the box was only opened to see how big the speaker actually was (let me say this speaker is a monster)... as for the set up that was mentioned i would go with 2 L5's dual 4ohms in a sealed box each ran seperately by a kicker 600.1... the reason i say run each sub off of its own amp is it has been my experience that any time you drop an amp below 2ohms mono they begin to run very hot.... plus it will look better with 2 seperate amps...

so your saying this would give me just as much spl as the L5's? does everyone agree with him? if there more expensive i could just buy them off ebay...but i just want to make sure they will give me the spl i want...they have just as much pontential as the L5's or do i have to work them harder?

so everyone agree with that?...but if i cant affors 2 600.1, 1200.1 would still be fine right...and i should run those to two dual 4ohm woofers too? right?
