Amp Problem: JL 250/1

I am having a problem with my amp...it won't power on. It was working fine then all of sudden stopped. I checked to see if power is getting to the amp and it is. When I disconnect the neg. wire from the amp and reconnect it, the amp will power on for 10 seconds then shut off. However, if the radio is on while I disconnect the neg. wire and reconnect it, the amp will not power on.

I don't think the amp is blown since it does power on, plus the gain is only turned up 1/4.

Anyone have any suggestions to what might be the problem?

you read the troubleshooting in the manual? what type of music do you listen to and at what overall volume? what color is the LED...or does it turn off afterwards? if the latter fits the description you gave above, jl comments that the battery voltage is less than 10v and may be due to the charging system; if not, a cap would help.

This "system" has been in my car for about fours years now, so I doubt it could be the voltage ( I checked with a meter, though). I'm a noob to this A/V thing so I don't understand why the power light comes on (green) when I dis/reconnect the neg. wire, but won't power on when the radio is on. Could it be a remote wire problem?
