Amp choices
Amp choices
Ok guys, i'm about to buy a new amp to replace the stock one. What brands should i look at? Right now i am thinking about buying a Alpine 4 channel that is 65W X 4RMS. What cha'll think?
Get something with a good warranty, good looks (to you), and the right power and features. Most mid-fi amps are going to be fine and you will not hear a difference between them. The most important thing should be reliability, then applicability (like adequate power), and then styling for your taste.
thanks for the feedback. i'm looking to spend around 250-350 on an amp. i can get a Alpine MRV-F340 on E-bay for like $250 including shipping and handling. think i should just buy it?
i rather get these

or

they are better imho, and they look better too.

ended up buying that Alpine amp off of E-bay. retail price on that amp is roughly 400 bux and i bought it for 260. next i am going to buy some Alpine Type-s 6X9s off of Ebay and then i'll be ready for phase two of my stereo upgrade. woo hoo!!!! the last thing i'm going to do is uprgrade the door speakers and tweeters. but first i want to hear how they sound with a higher quality/power amp powering them.
I think that amp will overpower the stock speakers. I just bought type s alpines on ebay to put in the doors, and I am hoping that it will sound better.
I am wondering if the doors get full range signal or just low pass though ??

we'll see. i can always turn down the gains on the amp to match the speakers. rather have too much power than not enough. that's what concerns me about upgrading the door speakers without changing the amp.

plus i'm going to be putting in crossovers to eliminate low bass sounds from the door speakers so they won't have to work so hard. that way the can just concentrate on mids and highs.
i'm most excited about having 6X9s that play a full range of sounds. i think it will really improve the audio for people sitting in the back of my car and will add to the fullness of sound for people in the front.

I am not worried about the lows, I want the doors to get the highs.

Also, the full range 6x9's, if you turn them up to match the volume of the front speakers, it will pull your soundstage to being behind you and not in front of you. Who listens to music with their back to the band? Most high end installs have either no speakers in the back, or smaller speakers with their volume turned low as to simulate the reflection off the rear of a concert hall or stadium...
