Alternator change?
Alternator change?
How many of you have actually changed for a high output alternator? I bought one which was rewind/rebuilt for 180amp (2nd gen TL); now that the sound system is in the car, I'm debating whether or not I should install it.
I've heard that changing the stock alternator can mess up things in your car seriously.
Anybody that has swapped the stock for an after-market one; feel free to comment, I'm quite curious to know.

i haven't done it on my car, but as far as i've seen on here it's not really necessary. if you allready have a capacitor installed then i wouldn't worry about it. at most i would say you should go for an optima battery to augment your system.
i also don't believe that swapping to a high output alternator would mess up your car. at least i'll say i've never seen it happen and i've hung out on chevy, ford, acura and mitsubishi forums for some time now.

Unless your pulling a lot of amps the stock alt will be fine. As far as messing the car up, well it depends on what type of alternator. I have a 220amp in my Explorer & had to change out the battery cables to 1 gauge. If you don't, you could get a fire from overheating the cables.
That's really the only danger. Alternators have voltage regulators so it will only give the car the power it needs & not shock the system with electrical spikes.
