Alpine VehicleHub - must have if you have navigation

i have an '01 TL with navigation and want to integrate my ipod and get satellite radio as well. went to see my friendly Alpine dealer here in Raleigh, NC and he told me to hang in there about 3-4 more weeks and get Alpine's VehicleHub. He said I could do it all and not have to rip anything out of my dash. It will all work through the navigation screen with a remote - iPod, satellite radio, etc.

so.....if you have navigation in your Acura and want this type of set up, then rush down to your local Alpine dealer and ask them about VehicleHub. i'm first in line for mine!

Yeah, I'm waiting to see the V Hub applications list. Alpine talked a lot of smack at CES about being able to deliver this and I'd like them to show me this dead grandmother firsthand: )

oh shit this could be a dream come true...so is this a hard drive for your mp3s? or does it just hook up to your ipod and display on the Navi screen?

the dealer i went to, Audio Express, in Raleigh, NC had the new 2005 Alpine brochure......the whole back page of the brochure is about the V-Hub. i'm sure you guys are close to an Alpine dealer (other than Best Buy or Circuit City). go by and ask about it by name.....they should have already placed orders for these units. the guy i spoke with said he ordered a TON. it's going to be f'ing hot.

Is this just for aftermarket Apline HUs, or will this work with our stock nav systems as well?

I remember reading somewhere on here that our HUs used the AI-Net protocol.

It's not a hard drive per se... it's more like a video interface and an Ai-NET gateway for other Alpine devices.

For anyone interested, here is a link to the 2005 Alpine brochure.

On another note, the Alpine nav systems look better than the stock Acura systems. On the screenshots pictured in the brochure, there are even buildings drawn on the map. Pretty neat.

This is going to be hot if it really lives it to the hype, especially if it utilizies the touch input of our stock screens.

I called alpine and they still have no info on when or where it is.

I checked the europe website and while there's no application list, there looks like there's a page of supported connectors, does one of these look like what we have?

it's going to start getting pricey, i'm already saving up for it.

$300 for the vhub, $100 for the ipod kit + price of the ipod. Since i have 60 gigs of music i'll need that 60 gig ipod for $430.

But man, if it works, it'll be hot.

Is there going to be a non-navi version for TSX's? or is it only meant for Navi users?

I called Alpine's customer service dept. and the rep there said that the Vehicle Hub we're referring to is no longer availabe here in the U.S. Only in Europe, hence why it can only be viewed from the European website. I asked if Alpine would come out with anything similar again for the US and he said most likely...but nothing on the horizon.

I say keep the Ice Link Plus dailo...the wait is indefinate and IMO not worth it unless we knew for sure that a similar product was bound to reach the US market in the near future.

I'm with you though...for 2 months now i've been searching hi and lo to find something...anything that will allow me to have an ipod display on the nav screen...but to no avail

I think this rep was misinformed. I have this unit (although no connector as of yet) and its also in both Alpine's 2005 U.S. spring catalog and their U.S. website:

http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/...y=70&p_main=30

I too am interested on find out who will be coming out with the adapter for this unit. (The Alpine rep for a local dealer here said most likely blitzsafe would).

Just an FYI to keep this thread alive.

so you purchased the unit, but it's just sitting around until an adapter is made? Where'd you get it from?

That's really weird that 3rd parties are responsible for making interface adapters?

Don't you just need the KCA-420i iPod adapter made by Alpine, and available at nearly all electronic stores?

In the vhub descriptions i've read, they've always mentioned a vehicle-specific interface adapter (available seperately). I assume this is what he's talking about.

This is the adapter that plugs the vhub into the OEM unit, and varies car to car since the port is going to be different.

A guy from Soundgate just emailed me back saying "We do not have any adaptors to work with the VehicleHub at this time."

I'm wondering though ... I have the Blitzsafe adapater for my TSX and next to the aux in ports, there seems to be a data port of some kind ... is this an ai-net input that'd work with the vhub?

I got the unit on (deep breath)...ebay, from a seller called x-sounds. It was NIB, so Im not worried about the quality. I emailed that seller and he also does not have the adapter. Guess for now I will just keep it sitting in the box....

from logjam:

Having done some research on the V-Hub, I can find no information about
any kind of 3rd party interface that will allow the V-Hub to be
connected to anything except an Alpine aftermarket headunit. It is our
opinion that Alpine is wanting 3rd party interfaces to be developed but
none are available that we know of right now.
I asked if the Blitzsafe adapter that has a data port on it would work, waiting on a reply on that ... but I don't think it will :/

Isn't this also suppose to handle the OEM video display also?
The Blitzsafe adapters only handle audio. Hope you guys get it working though.

yeah i found out that the port on the Blitzsafe is just a sony cd changer port, doh!

Yeah the VHub is supposed to interface with the OEM video display, although I have no idea how. I think in general, the VHub is just that, a hub, with a/v out, and they're leavin git up to the 3rd party interface makers to handle integrating it with OEM video displays.

Perhaps elduderino could look into this and shed some light on what the next step is?

I see... so, to use the Vhub, one would need the actual unit, the ipod unit, and the oem interface adapter. So, the whole package is going to run about $400 or so. Wow. It had better be good.
