well i have an Alpine MRP-M850 amp and 2 12w6 subs and i currently have it wired to 6ohms. it's not enough power for me and the only other way to wire it is at 1.5ohms. is this stable for my amp?

No. More than likely it will run hot or overheat. Get an amp that's 1 ohm stable and wire up the 1.5ohm config or get speakers that are 4ohms, run them in parallel for 2ohms. Or get another 12w6 and see if the 4ohm config is loud enough!
It's a monoblock amp. This means that it was meant to run at lower impedences. It should not overheat or shut down at 1.5 ohms. But still, this is not enough power for two 12W6 subwoofers. You can perform any magic to make that amp produce more power. Get rid of it and buy a bigger amp. A JL Audio 1000/1 will run those subs correctly.

We're talking about a D class amplifier. D class amps alone are not easy to push into thermal protect. Alpine D class amps have a thermal management processor which cuts the signal output when it starts getting warm. This brings the temp back into "COOL". If you can get this amp to shut down you're a special fella.
alright so it seems like i'm getting 2 sides here. i just don't know which way to go. i didn't know i was gonna run into this many problems buying an amp first without deciding which subs i was going to purchase. i got these JL's for only $200 including the box off a friend. so it was something i couldn't pass up. any more input from either of you guys would be great. thanks
If it was mine. And I had 4 gauge power wire. I would run that bastard amp at 1.5 ohms and see how it does. If it starts choking..... get a new amp.
Sometimes you won't know for sure until you try it.
