Alpine IVA-C800 Question
you can wire both wires to switches or wire the parking to a switch (and the other to the actual foot brake). all you do is ground the other end of the switch for the parking brake wire. if you choose not to wire to the actual foot brake, then wire the other end of the this switch to 12v power.
whats with the foot brake wire?? Ive never done an install on one of these, just wondering what it does...?
With the parking brake wire, just ground it... so you dont have to bother with a switch... but I dont hold any responisbility if you get pulled over for watching a movie while driving!

For the Alpines you have to hook a wire up to your foot brake or regular brake that u push on and another wire to your parking brake. To get the video function to work you have to hold down your brake then engage your parking brake before it comes on and I just want to bypass all of it. Anyone else have any input for me?
I've got the IVAC800 and what I had done was a bypass switch. Just find the yellow wire that's going to your parking brake and then cut it and connect it to a bypass switch (I got one at AutoZone and its installed where the fog light switch is supposed to be). The bypass switch should have one connection going to the yellow wire form the Alpine and another going to a ground wire thats connected to the body of the car. After I had it done, I just push the foot brake and double click the bypass switch and then I can watch my DVD's and listen to CD's while driving. The switch basically takes the place of the parking brake. If you need pics just go to my cheap web page at Soundomain.com. Peace.

yup, the alpines require a fancy dance before you can get video to display. what you need to do is to step on the foot brake, pump the hand brake a couple of times, and then release the foot brake. in the car, hand brakes work off ground so when you wire this safety wire to a switch, the other end of the switch is grouned. on the other hand, foot brakes work off 12v power so when you wire this safety wire to a switch, the other end of the switch is wire to a power source. after you have done this...you flip the foot brake switch ON, then flip the parking brake switch (once or several times), and finally you flip the foot brake switch OFF to get video while driving.
when i had the 1005 in an accord, i had the foot brake wired but the parking brakes on a switch. you step on the brakes, flip the switch a couple of times, and then let off the foot brake.
also there is a special device you can buy that will accomplish this dance for you automatically every time you start the car and you get video instantaneously. i am not sure where to buy it but it did exist...
