Alpine Changer ??

I was just wondering if an aftermarket Alpine CD changer would mount in the spot where the navi mounts in the trunk. I do not have navi on my TL and I am thinking of adding a changer to my Alpine head unit. Thanks.

My 2000TL has factory Navigation & I also have the factory 6CD Changer mounted in the trunk. The NAV is mounted up top left hand side under rear deck the factory changer is mounted down low on the left hand side of the trunk. It has a little bar that keeps anything from hiting the changer. But if you want to mount the a changer up high it should not be a problem. I had an aftermarket Alpine changer mounted up high in my previous car a ACCORD in the same spot like my Nav in my TL.

Absolutely it will. I have mine mounted there. Go to the dealer and order the Navi bracket. I velcroed mine in the bracket and it looks awesome there. Out of the way.

Thanks for the answers. I thought it would work. Just wanted to make sure before I buy one. Now to find an inexpensive changer. I am headed to ebay.

Yes it will. I have the factory navi-unit mounted back there (dvd version) and then purchased another mounting bracket and brought them both to the spot welder to have the welded together, one underneath the other. Then I touched up the spots he welded and everything looks factory. I'll take pictures later on today.

AcuraX2,

Before you purchase it on ebay, check out Carmedia1. They have them for $259 + shipping - brand new and they are probably more reputable than the bulk of the auction dealers.

If you find a cheaper source, PLEASE let us know!

Bozz.....Actually, most of the stuff I buy is used. I figure why not let some one else pay the new price and I get the discount. Kind of like buying a new car. Let someone else take the depreciation hit. Yes, once in a while it may bite you but, as long as you check everything out first, it usually works pretty good. Out of all the equipment I have for both vehicles right now, only my Alpine head unit in the TL did I buy new. Everything else I bought from individuals used. Maybe that makes me cheap but, I think I have top notch equipment at bargain prices.

I am thinking of getting rid of my CDA7897 and getting the new CVA1004 and CHAs634 changer. I am thinking if the changer would fit in under the passenger seat or in the center console. I really havent looked at the size of our console yet. I my CDA7897 keeps hangin up as it comes out the dash and I jsut got it back from the shop to get that problem fixed. Now they say its due to the angle that the dash sits at.

AcuraX2,

The only point I was trying to make is that I've scoured the ebay boards for the same changer. Typically, the best price you'll get is ~$240+shipping. I'd rather pay the extra $20 for a new one.

Of course, YMMV. I just wanted to let you know that the changers are out there and are priced substantially lower than the crutchfield price.

Since I know how good you are at finding bargains, I'm hoping to potentially cash in on your work!!!

bozz,

You may very well be correct. The changer you have, which is the one I would like to have but, do not have to have, is going to run more because it plays MP3's. I have looked at the 6 and 12 disc changers that do not play them and they are quite a bit cheaper. I have 2 offers on the model right before your changer for around $115. I do not think they play MP3's. I am not sure if I have to play MP3's or not. Thanks for the good info. I will keep everyone posted.

Gotcha. I thought you were strictly going for the mp3 changer. I haven't really priced the others. I do know the non mp3 12 disc changer is cheaper than the 6 disc mp3 changer.

I went with the mp3 changer since it will hold the equivalent of ~60 CDs.

I have a 2000 TL and was looking into a changer for it. I don't need to play MP3's but do need it to play burnt CD. My stock head won't and that sucks. Please let me know if an aftermarket changer will work with my factory head and where I can get a deal. Also, i don't have NAVI. Is that a problem? Even a a TL-S head would be fine with me if it fit and worked right.

thanks
D.

Hey 2KSilverTL....You can buy several changers that will, with an adapter, plug right into the factory head unit. Alpine, Kenwood, and I think even Pioneer.

Hey NSXNEXT,

Do you have any pics of your trunk with the subs in? From what little I've seen, it looks incredible. I'd like to see your whole setup.

Did you do it yourself or have it done for you?

Thanks.

I am thinking of getting a cd changer that play with mp3. I just bought from ROn or streeteffect the blitz adapter that he told me it will work in any alpine changer. My question is i look on alpine website they dont have the 12 disc or higher mp3. do you guys know do they have that or just a 6 disc mp3 player? thanks

I have two subs now, but I haven't taken any pics yet. Here's what it looks like with one. With two, I have them on either side of the center pass-through.

Ron did most of the work. I did the rear speakers and sound dampening.

Damn! That's sweet. how do the subs sound in such small enclosures? (Sorry AcuraX2, didn't mean to take away from your original topic!)

Once I get my amp rack and subs into my trunk, I won't even be able to fit the baby stroller in. How do you think my wife feels about that?

I can't really redo the sub enclosure since it has the ideal enclosure space and extreme bracing needed to keep from rattling, etc...

Maybe I could figure a way to ditch the amp rack and do an install similar to yours where the amps get mounted on the sides of the trunk.

Anyway, thanks for the pics!! I'm jealous!

Here are some crappy pics of what I was talking about in a previous post. I did my Sony 10 disc dvd changer installation today and will take pics once I get my digital camera back

As you can see I had the two factory navi unit pieces (i bought the second one) welded together then mounted the 10 disc sony dvd changer underneath. Works great, never any skipping.
