alpine CDA9835 headunit?

hey. does anybody have this headunit? apparantly you have to connect the power directly to the battery of the car via 10 guage wire. does anybody have any thoughts on this? my cousin wants to get it but then he read this note that says the HU draws to much power. thanks

Most of the new Alpine's want you to do this. The internal amp provides better power than most head units so, they want a direct battery connection. If you are not using the internal amp, you could get away with not doing it. If you are using all 4 channels of the internal amp, I would hook it straight to the battery to be safe.

I have it hooked up with just the metra harness adaptors, and it works fine, but I'll be going with external amps soon.

If you want the full V-Drive Power capabilities you should hook it directly to the battery terminal. I have the 9813 and my friend has the 9833, we both hooked up ours directly to the battery. :o
