Alarm/Starter: Compustar vs. Viper vs. Clifford
Hi,
I have been looking through the old threads over at A-TL about alarms and have come up with these three companies up top. I'm basically looking for a good solid alarm system w/ remote start. I like the idea of a 2-way LCD remote, but its not totally nessesary. I'm interested in shock sensors and proximity sensors. I also want to be able to use one FOB remote and be able to pop trunk open and remote start car w/o fuss that some alarms have.
My choices from each company are as follows:
Compustar 2WSS-AS
Clifford G5 Series (Solaris 5 or Avantguard 5, advanced model)
Clifford Matrix series (RSX 3.5 LCD or RS 2.1 reg)
Viper 791XV (lcd) or 560XV (non-lcd)
I'm clear on what the Compustar offers, but the Directed Electronics branding confuses me.
Are there are really differences between the Clifford & Viper brands?
Why are Anti-Carjacking not offered on some of the alarm/starter combos?
What are the differences between the Solaris and Advantguard?
I appreciate any help I can get on this. Average install prices would also be helpful. I'm in Montgomery County, MD if that helps.

First of all compustar is garbage don't even touch it, now there is a company called DEI they make clifford , viper python , avital etc., they all same thing depend who sells what. What you wnat to get is as Viper 791 XV, another good alarm is Prestige 996 by Audiovox. I personally sell only Viper and Prestige

I have the Matrix 3.5 two way with the window mods, trunk release, garage door interface, tilt sensor, shock sensor, glass break sensor, hood and trunk pin sensor, back up battery, mini-peizo, and it only had a problem with the back up battery in the beginning which got fixed promptly by the company that installed it. I highly recomend any of the clifford or viper products. Though i don't recommend getting the "motion detector" for the reasons that something as small shadows can set it off and you end up getting alot of false alarms. Even the sun moving across your car will set it off. The window mods are nice for when you lock your keys in the car too.

I have competed in my CL on the Sound Quality circuit, and some of the groups actually JUDGE you on the security system. I have had a Clifford in my car since 2001, and has NEVER failed, even with all the engaging and disengaging required in competition. I also have remote start, which has NEVER failed. My unit was built before Clifford became part of DEI, and I know there have been some changes, but my unit has been flawless. I even have window modules and microwave sensors. Clifford should be a great choice.

Look at the sig below.....
I have always had Clifford, love it, will always get Clifford. Looks good with it's carbon fiber alarm key chain and it works wonders with long distance ability.

I'm looking for an alarm with remote start too.
Everywhere I go the Viper 850 is highly recommended. It is by far the most expandable and trouble free alarm out there.
I don't know this for a fact but like it says above every shop and store swears by it.
