Question Alarm Recommendations?

Looking for something reasonably priced that provides a good layer of protection/convenience.

Can any one please help me out with some suggestions?

I saw this model but don't know much about if it's good or not. Thanks.

I like Viper and Compustar.

Do some research on Compustar's "Drone". Super bad ass and much more cost effective than Vipers smart start.

The drone and Smart start are the best way to go for an alarm if you ask me because distance is unlimited first of all so no matter where you are you will know if something is going on with your car and you can add GPS tracking cheap.

I know there are other products similar to this one as well. IIRC autostart is coming out with their product sometime soon, other than that I'm not sure who else does this.

I also like and recommend Compustar and Viper alarms. Compustar has the best range, while Viper has better looking remotes IMO.

Unless you plan on installing it yourself and know how to do it properly, then I highly recommend that you not purchase the system online. If you do, you will likely have trouble finding a shop that will install it for you. And if you do then it will more than likely cost you more in the end and you definitely won't get any kind of warranty. Most shops will warranty the alarm and installation for as long as you own the vehicle if you purchase it from them.

Excellent info. Thanks guys.

I'm going to look into those two and yeah it appears Viper has the best looking remotes.

Which is why I automatically looked there.

That Compustar Drone is totally sick!

Damn, $120 bucks/year for that premium plan...!

But it's still so sick.

yup its a pretty discusting unit, you have to think of it as basically a cellphone in your car though.

and for 120/year with all the features you get... thats 10/month for unlimited range gps tracking full 2 way abilities and probably a shit ton more.

Defintley get it at a place that can offer you an extended warranty. I work in car audio with car starters being something we do as well and there is a good amount of service that is done on car starters. I would never buy or recomend someone to buy one if they couldn't get the labour warrantied.

I'm suprised it isn't android capable yet.

It has only been out for a month now. I'm sure android support will be very soon.

If you don't care about GPS tracking then it is only $30 a year with the first year free.

Ok. So I got a deal on this alarm in the first post if you guys think it's a good one.

That compustar is ridiculously sick but for now...

Do you think it's a good alarm for $110 shipped?

Probably cost a couple hundred for install?

You are going to have to ask the shops around you how much they will charge to install it. You are also going to need a bypass module to interface with the factory security. Keep in mind that if you go that route, you aren't going to have any warranty on installation or the system when done. Any issues and it will cost you to get them fixed.

Ironically we had a guy come in today that had purchased a Pioneer nav unit from Sonic Electronics about 3 months ago and had us install it at the time. He has had issues with the unit and now has to send it in to Pioneer to get it fixed. So he has to pay to have the unit removed, pay for shipping to send it to Pioneer and wait 4-8 weeks for it to be fixed, then pay to have us put it back in. Had he purchased it from us he would have left our shop today with a brand new unit and no charge. This is a perfect example of how it cost him more to "save money" by buying online.

I only referenced Sonic Electronics for the info.

I'm buying it from a local seller for $110 picked up.

Installed for an extra $80.

Seems like a good deal but that's good info on Sonic Electronics.

I'll be sure to proceed with caution before purchasing items from them.

This happens at our store all the time. Actually I don't think I've met an installer who will warranty work on parts that someone else bought
