Aftermarket Radio Install Question

I just put in an Alpine into my 2002 TL. I have noticed a few things that are getting under my skin and was wondering if I got a shitty install job. First the voice for the navagation is gone. Should my audio guy have had this work or is this something I have to pay extra for? Second when I accelerate I can here it though the speakers, an annoying whining sound. Told my guy and he said there is nothing he can do. I was planning on putting in a sub in and he told me once I do that it will go away. So is my audio guy a complete moron when it comes to installing aftermarket into TL's and should I take my business somewhere? Also on the install they dented my aluminum dash kit. Not big dents but I paid $120 just to install the radio. Did I get screwed?

Sorry that happened.

1) Most installers don't know much about OEM amp integration with aftermarket HUs. They don't understand how they work and they don't want to take any responsibility for the results.

2) Did that $120 include an interface adapter? You may or may not need one... we had someone here a few weeks ago that had had their speaker outputs going into the OEM amp input wiring. They ran the RCA's into the input wiring instead using $2 RCA.s cut in half as adapters, and had no noise and good volume.

3) They dented the kit? I'd hit them up for a new kit.

What part of the country are you in?

Sorry for the crappy install however you can pretty easily get rid of the whining sound simply by moving the wiring. It is near a ground somewhere.. that is what is causing the whining sound. This shouldn't be that big a deal.. Granted there are some installs that they simply cannot get rid of the whining..

AND it will not go away with the install of a sub.

You need to get a new installer! He definetly had no clue what he was doing. He should also have to pay for the damages. Was it at a shop or a personal friend?

Yeah, sounds like the installer was basically a moron. Can't believe they dented the trim, I would be pissed!

...actually... I think the noise if from the Alpine HU running into the OEM amp. So if the amp was replaced the noise probably would go away, and moving the wiring won't do it, most likely - it has to do with gain structure and noise floor and a ground loop between the two. Possibly grounding the HU at the trunk in the OEM amp groud location would help... but I am still most curious about the way the signal is going/converting or not...

Shouldn't be using the factory amp with an aftermarket HU unless the HU ddoesn't have power, as Alpine is known to sell some like that.

I just installed a Pioneer into my 2002 TLS with NO hassles. I bypassed the stock AMP, and am preparing to run my own amps, but just using the Head unit power for now.

Sounds awesome - no whine.

He shoulda used this adapter:

THE DARN WIRING HARNESS CHEAP FOR 2002 TL
