Aftermarket radio

i wanted to know if there was a way to hook-up steering controls to an aftermarket radio. i was planning to buy a radio with an LCD screen

there is a piece that allows you to use your steering wheel controls as long as the aftermarket unit has a remote control. I don't remember the exact name of the peice, just do a search on it. I think its called the SWI-3

ChinozTL is right...there is a unit that sends an IR signal to your HU and allows you to control thing like volume, etc. Something like this:
