adding Sirius to a '03 TL S-type w/navi

Hi! I'm picking up my new (used) 2003 TL later this week. I want Sirius in the car as I've had it in my old car since 2000.

The TL-S has navi and 6 cd-changer (in the trunk).

What options do I have to get the best sound quality possible for Sirius?

thx!

Check under the "DIY / Info / FAQ - For All Acura Models" at the top of the page and look under the section "Auxillary Inputs / iPod and MP3 Adapters"

Thanks! much of that is ipod related. I don't have an ipod (gasp!), just a blackberry with some MP3s on it. My primary goal is to get Sirius loaded in there somehow, and if I can still do the blackberry, that would be great!

What you are looking for is the "auxillary" one, not a iPod specific one. A auxillary port that plugs into the back of your radio that has 2 RCA inputs for the Sirius.

Example is a Blitzsafe in the image below: (blue connector to back of headunit, white and red are RCA Inputs)

Hopefully that helps a little bit. If you have any questions let me know.

To be honest I have no idea how to get a Blackberry to play through a car stereo But you can buy a adapter like the picture above with two RCA inputs so you could have the option to run Two inputs. You'd have to figure out the blackberry thing though. I'd assume if there's headphones you could do the old 3.5mm jack to RCA and it should work.. (see image below)

edit: and here's a example of a two input adapter made by soundgate

Well if you have both ipod and any other form of MP3, be it 3.5mm OR rca's...the isimple from peripheral covers all of those. I have all 3 inputs readily available. Why, coudn't tell you...but I like the option!

thx! being that I haven't picked up the car yet, and the one time I test drove it, I really didn't play with the stereo much, can someone detail exactly what system is in there, and if its any good? I know it has the 6-cd changer in the trunk (because of the navi, I believe), but other than that, I don't know anything about the sound system.

Shoot.. I know the CL, not 100% on the TL.. I know the TL doesn't have tweeters like the CL but it has a 8" factory sub.. If you're not a audiophile the system should be more then enough.. And the headunit should be a built in 6 disc in dash changer not a changer in the back.

hmmm. He did show me the changer in the trunk. I thought it was there because the navi took up room in the dash. subwoofer is nice - hope its decent!

My 47 year old ears are getting old.. but I like to think I have a good ear. I usually hate stock audio systems in cars and have replaced HUs amps and speakers in previous cars. I don't need my ears to bleed, but I do like the bass to be like I feel it instead of just hearing a woofy, hollow sound.

I have an older Kenwood excelon deck that has built in Sirius, but I'm not sure I want to take away from the natural look of the stock HU.

I guess I'm getting older..

well, I picked up the car Sunday. wow! I love it!!

The stock sound system is ok. Good solid bass with the sub. I pretty much listen new rock, classic rock and blues, so I don't need to 12's in the trunk!!

But at average volumes, the sound is just good, not GREAT. With my primary goal to add Sirius, I'm torn between putting in a new HU or doing some kind of Sirius pnp. I have an older Kenwood Excelon HU that I had in my old car (2000 Passat), but I'm not sure I want to mess with the clean look of the dash. But there really doesn't seem to be an optimal spot to place a pnp unit. The small little ashtray doesn't look big enough..

Maybe the Kenwood is the best option, but its a big area there to put just a single din stereo. But that may give me the best sounds quality..

ughh...

thoughts??

Check the DIY section and look under the "TSX" and "Satellite Radio".. I've seen several people put a Sirius or XM in the sunglass holder.

I'm not sure you'll be satisfied with just changing the headunit and not the speakers..
