about speaker wattage

on 6x9 speakesr, when it says Power Handling 100 w RMS does that mean the speakers can take 100W per speaker? or 100W total?

here's a link to what i mean: http://www.polkaudio.com/car/specs.php?name=mmc690

just wondering if i would buy a 100W amp or a 200W one

thanks

means each speaker can take a constant 100 watts

RMS=continuous power

look around some more, most liekly on the 6x9's thats 100 a piece, but some companies rate their speakers as a pair.

Most of the time when your buying an amp the wattage they give you is peak power not RMS, on a 200W 2channel amp the RMS power is probably only 50 or 60 watts RMS power per channel (depending on brand), so if your looking to max out all of your speakers (which isnt the greatest idea btw) you'll have to look at that fact also.
