think I posted this in the incorrect forum earlier but here goes


99 TL Audio

I have searched and talked to stereo shops and cant seem to get a consistant answer. I want to replace the headunit and speakers. Is this a straight forward install or do i have to by pass the bose amp. ( I have single cd bose no navi).

1) headunit. is it pretty much follow instructions to remove old unit, attach new unit to wiring harness and dashkit then replace

2) speakers, crutchfield says 6 1/2 will not fit BB and CC say yes.

I do not mind spending a couple hours replacing the audio. I do not want to get into alot of splicing/cutting and fabricating.

so can anyone tell me what I am up against, maybe a highlevel of steps. would i be better off paying 150 or so to have it installed or spend a few hours and know there were no shortcuts taken. i am reasonably handy with tools and can follow instructions (crutchfield mastersheet) pretty good. i just would like an indea of what i would be getting myself into before i started.

The first headunit that I ever installed was in my 99tl and I had no problem accomplishing it within a few hours after taking almost the whole car apart, the only thing that took me a long time was doing the LED conversion with all of the sodering at the same time, now that was a pain in the butt. After all of my work I would say it was a good experience and I wouldn't have paid for someone else to do it because everything works fine, of course if I would have messed up I would have just had my man down at tweeter hook it up for me.
