96 TL rear deck

i have been searching and reading and have not yet found my answer.

i just lost a rear speaker today - everything is stock, speakers and headunit.

i know the replacement size is 6x9, but what is the top-mount depth?

which speakers do you reccomend in the rear with all other stock components? i do not want to modify my grills in the back.

thanks

Depth is not a problem. The depth is so deep that the speakers will clear.
My Polk Audio has a 3 3/16 top mount depth and I still have plenty of space.
If you are going by the www.Crutchfield.com size chart. They are wrong.

yah same here... the crutchfield rep and site said that we could only fit 2 way 6.5 speakers in there... so i just measured the clearence myself and the tweeter protrusion we are allowed is up to .75"... so i just bought the polk 6x9... 3ways.. put them in and they work beautifully... i will look for pics somewhere///

The Polk EX from CircuitCity. I wound not recommend them.
The power is high enough But they are the lower end of the spectrum.
The sound is a little bright but, not as bright as Sony.
I'm going to Jbl GTO's soon.

well today i went and got the 6x9 Pioneer TS-A6960R for the rear.

the sound is very crisp and clear and distortion of the highs doesn't occur at loud settings. let me note that the 3-ways make music sound much higher, you may have to lower your treble. i am still on the stock headunit and to get deep bass i have to noticably increase the volume, but with an amp these speakers are great for their price.

anyone else try these? was it worth 20$ more for the 6970 wich have a deep basket versus my shallows? what effect does basket depth have?

thanks - any other suggestions appreciated
