I have stock everything right now. I was thinking of upgrading the front speakers as my first upgrade. I can only upgrade one thing at a time. ;-( Anyway what I was wondering is that I've heard that TLs have 1 or 2 Ohm speakers due to the Bose systems. Is this also true of this car? Thanks for your help.

I ripped out everything in my '98 3.2TL and nothing on it said Bose. Our stereos might be made by Bose but who knows. Mine had 4ohm speakers...but the deck does not put out that much power. I was very disappointed in the sound when i did mine but as soon as I replaced the deck I was very happy.

 

Right now the stock deck probably only pushes out 8-9 watts per channel. However, don't let aftermarket decks fool you. When you see 55x4 on the deck (Sony is known for doing this), that is the maximum output for that deck (peak power), but you will probably only see that much power if a Lightning bolt hit your car. At any rate, the specs you need to look out for is RMS power. That is the amount of power that is continuously being sent to your speakers. My suggestion, by a new deck, and hook them up to the stock speakers. If you still aren't happy with the sound, buy some nice speakers, like Diamonds or MB quarts....and maybe even add an amp to power those speakers. That's the best bet IMO. Good luck with this.
