8" Sub

I'm not really a big bass fanatic, however, I would like to add a but of bass to my tsx system. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a good 8" sub. I am looking for tight bass, no boom boom.

After having installed a 10" into a TSX last week, I will advise you to not use an 8" unless it is a very long-travel woofer with a ton of power.

I too do not like boomy bass. But the "armor plating" inside the TSX folding rear seat back stops a lot of sound from the trunk. (This is common for folding-rear-seat sedans.) I suspect that an 8" would have trouble with reaching a high enough volume level to escape the trunk effectively. In this case I think a good quality 10" would be your best bet.

Got some good sound with a JL 10W-0.

Your other alternative (which I should be implementing soon) is upgrading the by-nines to the MB Quart by-nine woofers. No one seems to have tried it yet.

prolly your best bet is the JL 8w7, but they are really pricey

or

something alil cheaper is the RE8 or a DD8.

you prolly wont be able to hit low end notes with an 8 inch sub tho. Only impressive 8in sub I have heard that had alot of authority is the 8w7.

As tuan will agree, if you want tight bass you have to invest in lots of amp power too... that 8w7 will be muddy as hell without enough amp behind it.

I have no opinions on that sub. Not an Infinity fan in general.

No more than 150 :P The reason I asked about the kappa perfect vq is because my buddy used to have a regular kappa perfect and the bass was very tight, no boom boom. THe VQ series is around 250, but sounddomain.com has a slightly 'imperfect' vq series for 150. The flaw is a blemish on the magnet sticket...their website has pictures...its ridiculous that they took a 100 bills off, but hey, their loss is someone elses gain. Anyways, the VQ series is supposed to be their top of the line sub....that's why i asked

I dont believe that a speaker company sold stuff at $100 off rather than put a new sticker on.

Better determine your amp budget and box budget.
