8 gauge power cable to 2 amps.

is 8 gauge sufficient to run power from the battery to 2 amps....an mtx 250 watt amp and a jl 4 channel amp that would probably output 50 watts rms each channel? i have an 8 gauge running right now to the mtx amp but am gonna add another amp to power the 4 speakers. i don't max out the amps power whenever i play my music....hardly. and the gain of the amps...i usually have them set at half or 3/4. do i need to change the 8 gauge cable to 4. will i experience any problems with just sticking with the 8 gauge?

I would run 4 gauge. It will give you more sound out of your stuff, it carries more current I believe. Generally if you have more than one amp, you want to get at least 4 gauge.

I agree that 4 would be better, but I bet the 8 will work alright. You could always try the existing 8 and if you experiece the bass fading when you crank it up you could then upgrade to the 4... I bet you won't have that problem though.

I had 4 amps, 600w, 150w, 100w, and 60w all running off one 4 guage cable and never had any problems in my old car.

So if i were to run a RF 360.2 on 1 JL 10 and a soundstream 40x4 on some kappas i could use one 4 gage wire instead of one for each amp and be ok?

you would use the 4 gauge from the battery, then get like a power ditribution block and run an 8 gauge to the sub amp and another 8 gauge to the soundstream.

my dilema now is, i have an 8 gauge from the battery. i plan to use that same wire to run power to 2 amps, each at 200 watts rms. do i run 2 8gauge wires from a power distributor to the 2amps.....i guess huh!

I would recomment 4 gauge from battery to distributor block. then 8 to each of your amp. If you run 8 to distributor block then 8 to your amps, it doesn't make any different than run a single cable to your amps. Think of the cable as water hose, if you slit the hose into 2, you would have weak output. but if you use a bigger hose and slit it, of course, you would have stronger output. Good luck.

the 8 gauge probably will not be enough, mtx and jl amps use quite a bit of power... the easiest way, and cheapest way would be to just add another 8g wire from the battery to the second amp... those friggen distrubution blocks are a waste of money, they are like $50 and all they do is make another connection in the line, making power transfer less efficent. I'd run the 2 8g wires, thats my opinion and what I have always had the best luck with.

How did any of you run the power cable through the fire wall. I can't find an existing hole.
