6.5 comps

My front speaker went out so i was gonna buy new 6.5 comps. Think ive narrowed it down to Boston Pro60SE, JL Audio 650-CSi or the Focal 165VR. Any suggestions?

well whats ur price range on sub and what are you looking for sound quality spl? There are way better subs out there but costs more. You can get good sound out of a cvr if your not wanting a killer hitting system.

Im kinda on a tight budget spent too much already on performace stuff so trying to find cheap deals for stuff that isnt too bad. Im not that much of an audio nut where i need the best.

If you don't need a ton of bass, you could pick up a single 8 or 10 of decent quality, and run one of those. Something like a DC lvl 2, RD Sonance, etc. That would be my suggestion over both of the subs that you're currently looking at...

Good point, I always wanted a JL sub maybe the 8w3v3 or 10w3v3. Would u recommend 2 ohm over 4.

I would still say the cvr for the cheap as the type r doesnt sound as good as said or better yet the dc can get very nasty loud I had 2 dc lvl 3's sold em both shipped for 250. You can get one 12 lvl 3 for around 125 shipped used. It will out preform all typed in so far.

Im leaning more toward a 8 or 10 JL sub. My amp is a mono 500w at 4 ohm, 600w at 2 ohm, 700 max if that helps.

DC lvl 3 is perfect. Grab a dual 2 ohm sub, and it'll be money...

The JL is going to cost an assload more than any of the other subs listed here, and you'll only get marginally better performance, if at all... Plus for that power, you're going to need a W6, which is going to cost quite a bit...

JL costs a fortune, and in terms of higher power handling or SPL, they're subs aren't that great. Let's face it, their top sub is only rated for 1kw. Look at a company like DD, RD, DC, etc and they have subs that will take tons more power, while still sounding good. Don't get me wrong, JL subs sound pretty good, but for a lot less money, you can't get almost the same SQ with much better power handling.

It's not all about spl, though.

as far as musical subs go, the w6 wins over anything mentioned in here.

w7 is also a beast of a sub..they just cost too damn much and you can match the performance for less. but to say jl is low end is a reach...

Im more into performance and wanna go with a smaller 8 sub for less weight. Plus i wanna be under $200. I think ill either get the JL 8w3v3 for 130 at 8-9 lbs heavy, or the DD 1508 u mentioned which looks like its 16 lbs. Ill call my closest dealer tomorrow and see what price he can give me on the DD.

If i got these, i assume my 300/4 JL amp is insufficient. I could always upgrade later tho.

best to find them on a car audio forum thats where i got mine. I have never had any problem buying used speakers or amps. I just make sure I get them from a person with good feedback and references.

I have a MINT set of Hertz HSK 165s I'll sell for $175-200. They were in my truck for about 4 months....and you're local.

They sounded amazing in my truck.

The Hertz are probably the best option listed thus far. And if you're "low" on power, bridge the 300/4 to 2 channels. That should pretty well power and comp set out there right now, at least until you get into the $500+ comp set range...

I had 125 watts going to them and they sounded amazing. Then I sound-deadened the door and the impact of the mid bass was enough to feel and the tweeters are not harsh at all....which is why I bought them.

Yea i can do that just wouldnt have anything to power my crappy boston nx97's then and dont have enough cash to get new 6x9's or amp now. Ill never spend 500 plus i doubt it. the hertz or morel will be good enough for me.

For the sub i can get the dd 1508 today for $150. It is the single coal tho. My amp is a single channel thats runs 500w in 2 ohm and 600 watt in 4 ohm, so i might just grab the single instead of wait for the dual coil. The store only has 1 left.

When I was shopping for comps....I was in the exact same boat you are in now. I was very suprised with the Hertz. I'll sell them for $150 if you want them.

If it was me and i was low on cash i'd go for the Hertz but hey it's your call and you did ask our opinions since we know more about audio. But I imagine you will do what many others have done when asking for opinions you will disregard what has been advised and go with something else. And hey maybe youl be happy. If so then great. But you are getting the best advice here it's up to you to take it. Also you dont have to bridge the amp down it will just send less power to all speakers. But you would be surprised with just 2 really good mid bass drivers. Also if you take out the 6x9's and just put the cover in there you will have more air flowing into the cabin and it will be much louder(trust me i know). I have dirched the 6x9's in back and am sticking with 4" tweets and 8" mids in the doors. It is plenty that way. Hell if i hadnt already ordered my 8"'s and hadnt cut my door panels already I'd snag em.
