4 gauge vs 8

I have 8 gauge wiring in my car right now becaue my old system was just one 12 and a 300watt RMS amp. Right now I got 2 10's wit 225x2 or 450 watts rms and still have the 8 gauge power and ground wire. THe amp specs says its fine wit 8 gauge but If I upgraded to 4 gauge would I gain anything or just lose 70 bucks for wires. Would my sounds improve. I dont see much of a differ from my one 12 to the 2 10's??? I installed one 12 wit 150 watts rms in my sisters RSX and the bass sounds much better in there. O yea and does it make a differ in what brand of wires because i bought the radio shack wiring kit for my car (this was like last year) and have a stinger kit in the RSX.
