Is 3 amps too many?

I've got a JL 300/4 amp powering my speakers and a Punch 360.2 amp powering my JL 12w3 sub. I was thinking of getting another 12w3 and having that powered by yet another amp. Would that work alright? Or would it not be wise for me to be running 3 amps with a stock alternator and an Optima yellow top battery? This third amp would just be another Punch 360.2 amp. Your opinions here would be greatly appreciated.

3 amps would not be to many. Using a yellow top would be smart (thats what I am using with the stock alternator pushing about 1400 watts and so far no problems). My stock battery died in a week or so after I installed my system. good luck!

Make sure you run a heavy gauge wire like 4 or 2 ( 2 would be better just more expensive ) gauge to get the most out of your system by supplying each amp with enough juice.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll go ahead and do it then. I know the amps I've got aren't that powerful, I just wasn't sure if having 3 of them would have any negative consequences.

I like caps myself, but for 3000 watts you'll need 3 1-Fared caps. Each one goes for about $100-$200, depending on digital read-out or not, and a Optima battery goes for around $300 (I think). I don't know if you'll need more than one battery though. Also, I'm not positive, but I figured caps last nearly forever whereas, once a battery runs out, it's done.

Nitin, is it possible for you to just buy a bigger amp to power both W3's? Instead of spending the money buying another 360.2....sell the current one you have and buy 1 amp that's capable of powering both W3's.

i would add a 1 farad cap along with a dry cell battery. I'd worry about overusing some fuses so the dry cell would take the some of the burden off.
