2001 CL CarPC
2001 CL CarPC
well it took me about a few months to finish this... most of it was planning, but i finally got it done. basically the features are navigation, mp3, video, and DVD. Maybe in the near future thinking of adding real-time dyno and phone control. (SORRY MY PICTURES SUCK.. i NEED A NEW CAMERA).
it started with the rear console.. i noticed i never i used it so i decided to start there. (what's cool is that it has a lock on it!) made spacers matching the itx form factor.
FANS were needed... my test runs got too hot... so i made some room for 2 fans and epoxyed them to the back. (both of them exhausts. this would then blow straight to the power supply underneath so it was perfect).

2 dollar fan covers from Fry's....

the thin silver rectangle's the power supply.. it barely fits, also with the air having no place to go i had to actually raise the center console about 1/2 inch using studs.

then was the touchscreen LCD... after taking the factory nav out i used a ball bearing joint extending from the chalk marks where the stock nav was... found a good angle and locked it in place.

then i used a USB to IDE bridge to extend the optical drive to the glove compartment.

made my own boot screen... (this actually isn't displayed for very long... i pretty much turned off all XP services cutting bootup time to around 2 passes of the blue progress bar). i also use S3 hibernation, so again i never see it, but just thought i'd add some flavor to it.. hah.

iGuidance navigation... this sucker's DEAD accurate. It even has the option to alert you if you are going too fast!!! As far as accuracy goes its about the same as the stock nav, but definitely calculates faster because the maps and everything are running off the hard drive. Crappy thing is that unlike the stock nav, its relying just on satellites alone so its completely helpless in buildings and tunnels.

small RJ-45 port in the trunk (for uploading/file syncing and remote access)

yes, photos suck... this is centrafuse in close up.

i guess other future things would be real-time dyno using the serial port ODB connector.. and bluetooth phone control (don't have a bluetooth phone as of now though)...

i think about $800 altogether..... stuff like the memory and the HDD i got cheap... otherwise it'd be a lot more... the xenarc touchscreen was what costed the most.. ($400 alone).

how do you like the xenarc monitor, the resolution seemed ok in the pictures.

the xenarc is very very nice.. of course its native resolution is 800x480 (16x9), which isn't actually supported by the S3 chipset.. but you can force 800x600, which comes out very acceptable but doesn't show off the best that the xenarc can put out.

Nice work Ak! Its so cool to see other CLers with CarPCs! I did something similar but kept the stock navi screen/controls. https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-navigation-22/03-cls-pc-300590/
