2 sets of Alpine type S speakers for $199 (include TAX + install) in Circuit City

I went to the Circuit City today. found out that Circuit City have special on the Alpine type S speaker. The second pair is 50% off. Beside this, the installation is also 50% off . Therefore, I paid $149 (2 set of speakers) + tax + $33 installation fee + $3.99 shopfee(don't know what is that for). The total is around $199

I was standing next to the installation guy, he did a reasonable job. Carefully removed all the door panels and parts. I drop the car around 5:15 and get the car back at 6:45pm. Around 1 1/2 hours waiting. Less than I expected.

I think this is a good deal for people who don't want to install the speaker by their own.

The type S is a great speaker, thanks for the people who recommend this speaker.

I am thinking to replace the 6x9 speaker at the back. What speaker you guys suggest?

The special is for any speaker that costs above $100.

I just replace my front door speaker from the Alpines to the Infinity 6000cs (component). I still have the Alpine 6 1/2 type S on the rear door. As for the 6x9s I have replaced them with Alpine type Rs. But I was thinking of trading them for some Infinity Kappa 6x9s.

Why did you swap the Alpines?
I just ordered the S-170a's (2-way 6.5") and 690's (3way 6x9). All for $132 shipped. Im stuck on what Components to get for the front...

I think those deals are specific to a given region. In my area it was the Polks that were discounted - buy one pair, get 50% off the second one.

That sounds like a great price. May I inquire as to where you got this deal?

I don't know if the prices are the same on here, but at least you can check out some of what they offer.

Yes, I see. Prices are better than discountjungle.com. Thanks for the link.

How do you like the Infinity speakers? How are they better than the Alpine set?

I went to circuit city and picked up (4) alpines and (2) 6x9. They were on sale buy a pair get 2nd half price. The sale wasnt advertised but ask the salesman to look up the price. Did the install myself and used Dynomat. Took about 5 1/2 hours. Like everyone else that has done this mod, I find the improvement amazing. You have to turn your volume up higher to achieve the same level of sound with the stock speakers... but fidelity is better. The stock door speakers are so cheap and they are not even screwed into the door which caused rattle at high volumes. Now with the alpines and dynomat I can crank the stock head unit up to max and the speakers handle it like its nothing. Bass is kicking and no rattles or distrotion. These speakers crave more power than the stock amp is providing.

It is just my personal sound preference. I can hear a subtle difference in the two speakers. Most of my friends think I am nuts because they cannot hear the difference. The alpines in the rear door of my car give me the mids and highs I need. The infinities give me more of a full midrange sound.

The Alpine Type S is an excellent brand. I would never say that Alpine is not a good choice, especially since I still have some in my car. In fact the deal you received is a very good deal. congrats on the upgrade. I’m sure you’ll love the sound.

Alpine and infinity both make excellent speakers. It is just a matter of preference. Each person likes a particular sound. If you decide to upgrade, listen to a whole contingent of speakers and decide which is going to satisfy your personal taste.

BTW, many people on this forum like POLK, others like Alpine, others like infinity, and yet others think that all three of these brands are crap. Everyone has their own opinion but yours is the only one that counts.
