1999 TL has a sub? Really?
So I have been pondering how I can have a real sub and keep it looking stock. Yeah I could've changed the radio and speakers (YES the stock speakers will work with aftermarket head units and NO the Bose sub wont work anymore but YES the speakers will sound like shiaat anyways). Besides, I don't want to spend money!
I decided to install a Punch R/F amp previously from my 2000 Accord V6 with my JL audio 10w3's. Keeping everything else stock.
I first got the radio out of the dash (what a bitch), luckily the wiring codes were printed on it. I bought a new wiring harness from Acura ($34.94) to extend the wiring but I wired the front L/R and the rear L/R speakers to the FRONT FADE channels of my Bose radio...this dropped down the ohm load on the front channels, but with the small amount of wattage...it didnt matter, also the Bose sub was lost but who cares. The REAR FADE channels of the Bose were hooked up to a Line Level Converter bought from BestBuy ($48.00), RIGHT AFTER THE STOCK RADIO, then with R/F stereo patch cables and an amp wiring kit, I wired and mounted the amp up inside the trunk.
If you don't want to throw that stock radio look, the radio steering wheel controls, or a lot of money, this is a simple way of using your stock radio to fade out the entire rear bass channels to listen to the highs within the cars interior, you can also fade out all highs and listen to subs only.
To take care of the CDR problem, I bought a 10 disc changer from Autotoys.com. You can get one with an input for tv/dvd too.
Anything is possible but your local Bestbuy and Goodguys wont do it for you.
