1999 CL 1st gen noise from rear deck.

Hey all. First time post, proud long time cl owner. So I've gone through various audio systems in the cl and can't seem to find a solution of how to stop the noise from the rear deck. I don't want to remove it, and shops don't know how to deal with it. Currently there are 2 15" pushing lots of air. Obviously it's more intense with different frequencies 65-75 hz at 148db being the worst.
Thanks for the help

IMO I'd decouple it. www.sounddeadenershowdown.com for details.

Its not all about how much deadening mat you put down. Far from it imo.

Any kind of sound deadening material will work.

A lot of guys have had issues with their 3rd brake light vibrating against the glass, if deadening the rear deck doesn't fix it, check the 3rd brake light, or remove it, also if you still have the stock speaker grills, they could be an issue also

On mine when my 18 would hit certain notes the metal deck would flex and make a awful noise. So I took the stock portions out and built a rear deck with mdf(left some of the metal) but Reinforced it all. No more flex and no noise.

Dude, on1wheel01, you need to make a tutorial for doing the rear deck!! I'd love to do that, but don't have a clue how to do it!

ORLY?

Asphalt belongs under your tires, Butyl rubber compounds (visco-elastic) only in the car for deadening. PERIOD.

Lol it's a pain to do. I had thought of taking mine out and making others to sell (using mine as a template). But shipping and such is a pain so I have never done it.

It isn't as bad as you might think bro.

I built and sold fiberglass subwoofer boxes for the Ford Escape / Mazda Tribute community using my own vehicle as the template, (did 5 of them if I recall), and shipping wasn't nearly as bad as I expected in each situation. The box was ~40"x14"x6" approx, and shipping (even including a subwoofer already installed) was only ~$30-34. Your panel will weigh a lot less than that box, and will probably be less deep which may end up being a bit cheaper. For a box, what I did was buy a bunch of Home Depot cardboard boxes, packing tape, some high density flexible foam roll, and importantly, the big cellophane plastic wrap. Then I wrapped the subwoofer box in foam, cut up the cardboard boxes to wrap around the sub box, and finally cell-wrapped the whole thing and stuck a label on it. Minor PITA so I charged $10 in materials to each job, to compensate.

You have a really great product, I was only going to suggest making a small groove (about 1/3" wide) near the perimeter under the backside, so all your extra material that you have to pie-cut and shape can be finished nice and clean. Plus you could use Ensolite or another thin closed-cell foam on the underside to complete it (and give a little bit of a seal.)

You could easily command $100+ for one + shipping.

Thanks for the compliment man (means a lot coming from someone with as much exp as you). I may do it eventually. But currently im so freakin slammed with restoring bikes powder coating and boxes for customers. Every day off from my job is just all work. Getting old but money is money I guess.
