03 CL aftermarket headunit

Can an aftermarket headunit be installed without tinkering with the bose amp. He wants to keep the stock speakers for now. My buddy did it in his 02 TL-S with no problems. Is the CL the same?

Thanks, J.T.

The CL is not the same. The CL has an external BOSE amp in the trunk. The TL does not. The harnesses are the same behind the deck but you should be using an adapter to pipe into the factory BOSE amp. Many people don't and it will work. But it sound like pooh when you turn it up. This is from over driving the BOSE amp on the CL. Symptoms are clipping, overheating and distortion.

But some people like distortion.

We tried a few things and here are the results:

1. A Sony radio that works perfectly fine in a TL was put in a CL and only the FM/AM works...For some reason the CD section has no audio.

2. Thinking the player is screwed up we try a brand new Pioneer which has no audio with any source.

3. Put the Sony back in the TL and it works fine.

Is it the fact that the Bose amp is trying to drive the speakers along with the CD player internal amp. No extra wiring was done, just the plug and play harness.

What adapter are you talking about?

Thanks

You crazy guy!!

You've got the ANTENNA TURN ON connected to the blue wire on the Metra harness. You've got BLUE to BLUE.

You need to connect the BLUE/WHITE to BLUE. Take the BLUE/WHITE from the Sony deck and connect it to the BLUE on the Metra aftermarket harness.

Problem Solved.

OK now I'm really confused.... I didn't have the blue/white or blue hooked up to anything because I'm not using an amp or antenna?

The blue/white and blue are not used in the TL either and it works as it should...

It should work fine in the TL because there is no external amp to turn on. But you should need to use the blue/white from the deck to turn the CL's amp on. You should have no audio at all without that BOSE amp turned on.

You should have left a quick message. I'm always busy but I return messages very quick. I'm helping an MDX owner out with the same problems that you're having. Here is the pic that I posted in his thread. This is what you're harness should look like with the BOSE integration piece.
