Question 02 TL-P Radio code without VIN number?

Is it possible to get the radio code for an OEM radio for an 02-TLP without the corresponding VIN number?

If yes, how much would that cost?

yes, i think its possible cause i've done it before

there's a certain combination of buttons you gotta press to get the unit to display its serial number, after you get that number, you gotta call your dealer and tell them that serial number, and they should be able to pull up the radio code on the computer free of charge.

oh, and I think the combination is 1 and 6, and you gotta press it at the same time, but im not sure.

Check under the hood in the engine compartment, specifically under the fuse box on the passenger side of the compartment. There should be two printed numbers - a 5-digit number for the radio code and a 4-digit for the nav system (if equipped). I have a 02 TL-S and the local Acura dealer told me about this so I wouldn't have to bring the car in for a service call. Thankfully, it worked and the dealer was right.

This is exactly the problem. The place i'm getting the radio from is a salvage yard, and they take the parts out of the car and sell them separately. So I don't have access to the car to check these, I wish I did, I could just use the VIN number

Preciate the info though.

Ok, I've asked the seller the question, and depending on that response I may take the chance and purchase the radio and try this.

Thanks for the responses, if you guys think of anything else to try, I'd appreciate it.

I want to know my options before trying to put the radio in and getting stuck...

Ok, so just as an update, I did find out that i can get the VIN number so that shouldn't be an issue, but I'll try the 1 and 6 trick to see if I can get the serial number and get the radio code without visiting the dealer

I'll post what works.

Thanks all who replied!

Ok, to confirm the process... The serial number on the radio is all you need to get the new radio code. The serial number is on the bottom of the radio as well as on a sticker on the side of the radio under the faux wood trim. There should be no need to remove the radio to get the serial number unless the sticker is worn off. i was able to call the dealer and the service department was able to give me the radio code over the phone.

Unfortunately, my radio wasn't in total working condition (tuner worked, but no CD functionality) so I'm returning it for a refund. Such is life
