brakejobhelp, i think i speak for all of us when I say WE appreciate this thread very much, its very usefull...
my question: Why can't more cops be like you.. i know they are mostly all good people, but some of them are just plain rude asses (yes i understand its stressful) but that doesnt mean these guys need to be rude like they are sometimes

I still get in my TL and speed around, and at the meet i was going as fast as everyone else... I've let a lot of people go who deserved to be arrested, but I knew just my contact had made a difference...
Maybe it's just because I work for a busy agency, i don't have time to sit around in speed traps or hide on offramps to get freeway speeders... i get my fill of work busting crackheads, rapists, wife beaters, and other shit... who cares about some idiot kid with a muffler and lowering springs, especially when my own personal car has an idiot muffler and lowering springs
we're all idiots

sometimes, and this is rare, you'll get one of us to admit that we've all done some things which may have landed us in jail, we're just lucky to never get caught...
i've sped at 120mph when I was 16, in a 35... that would have landed me in jail...

If you pull someone over and they do something funny, do you laugh at them or do you maintain an all-business demeanor?
For instance, one time I was pulled over because my toll booth transponder didn't go off because I didn't hold it up in time, and when the cop got there I was genuinely distressed because I hadn't meant to blow thru the tollbooth, so I was like, "OMG I'M SO SORRY IT WAS AN ACCIDENT I DIDN'T MEAN TO" and I could tell that the cop thought my reaction was hilarious since I was so obviously upset about something pretty insignificant, but he worked through the pain of trying not to smile and gave me a stern warning (but no ticket)... in that situation, would you have smiled?
Also, do you ever pull people over to tell them you like their cars?

Do you feel hamstrung by all of the suspect-friendly, anti-profiling, victim-protecting, politically correct wimp-out regulations that are imposed these days? (OK, the wording of that question definitely shows my bias, but so be it.) I mean if there were one or two things that you could change in the law that would affect the way you guys do your job, what would it be?

Consider yourselves all VERY lucky to have such honest input from an officer.

Are there any environmental factors that persuades you NOT to pull over someone? Another officer in uniform, military in uniform, hot soccer mom, asian lady looking lost, etc.?

I would want us to be questioned less by the media and general public, who are usually SO uninformed they just take the easy way out and blame the police...
also, i'd like it so we cannot be sued directly if we make a mistake... thats just not fair, we're human...

raining? i dont want to be out in the cold
Other cops/military/firemen/emt¶medics are usually given professional courtesy... when it's 2am in the freezing cold and some jackass has knocked his wife out because he's a punk dick... and you're standing out in the cold with the only other morons up at 2am (other cops and fire/medics) then they kinda deserve a little courtesy...
Hot moms sometimes get a break, although a lot of the time they're being bitches and talk themselves into a ticket...
Actually, I had an idiot who would *NOT* get off the phone for a simple, simple, SIMPLE warning... She made an illegal u-turn. I thought she was lost, so i pulled her over just to warn her... Smile and everything, didn't even ask for her license... She kept her window up, i had to knock on it to get it down... then she stayed on the phone and said something like, "Oh great now this officer pulled me over for something stupid..."
I asked her to get off the phone and she said "why?"...
"because I said so, now hang up."
"no officer, you can't make me. now do whatever you want and get this over with" "(back on phone) Oh i just wish he would hurry up, making me late...."
she ended up with an illegal u turn ticket, 2 child seat violations, and 5200vc No front license plate
and i almost NEVER EVER write for no front plate... i dont use one myself..
