no, CHP are very well trained here in cali... they're experts in vehicle code stuff..

have you ever seen a penal code book... thats just one of MANY books with laws... the vast majority of cops are like me... we know all of the common crimes and violations, and most of the "less common but popular" crimes... obscure things like "destruction of state property," although they sound impressive, are very, very rare... It comes down to the law of a detention... I have reasonable suspicion that a crime has occured... i can figure out the very specific elements of the crime if needed...

like burglary... most people dont know what it really is... we memorize it.

Burglary is the act of entering a specified structure with the intent of comitting any felony or any theft.

Why is this important?
heres some trivia (all based on the letter of the law here) say you shoplift a candy bar... if you admit to entering the store to steal the candy bar, your misdemeanor shoplifting is now a felony burglary...

there are so many other things about california law that are very interesting... but some are secret (the general public is clueless) and we use this to our advantage...

Wow seems like you have detective hours ? What kind of schedule do you have....3/12....4/10?

Do you work on any specialized units besides being a peace officer?

I haven't read the whole thread, so forgive me if this is a repost. But if you were genuinely in a situation similar to that described in this thread (except with open road), could you talk yourself out of a speeding ticket?

Are newer model cars less suspect for a stop than older "beater" cars?

Are flashier/riced/chromed/tinted/pimped rides more likely for a stop than stock cars? (basically, do you consider stock cars less likely to carry law breaking citizens?)

Same thing happened to me. Cop asked if that was why I flashed my lights, I answered honestly. That honest answer saved me from a ticket, cop told me so. Like someone else mentioned it's obstruction of justice, or something similar. So don't get caught!

it all depends on so many circumstances...

beater car in a nice area, 80's car with huge expensive spinners, really nice luxury car in a shitty area, etc....

Florida law will change as of 10/1/05. You will no longer have to retreat if threatened (house or car):

I think it's great. It'll make some of these lowlives think twice about messing with people.

If your speeding off work in your own car, and get pulled over, do you just show your badge and get away with it?

sorry. just giving honest answers... we're not entitled to a professional courtesy though, and acting like it makes you look like an asshole... but generally as long as you're not drunk you're kinda immune...

do you know of any cops who use steroids? i swear 4-5 that use to lift at the gym i went to were on some gear (usual signs, bloated face, size increase in just a few weeks, earger to work out) they always asked my brothers and i how they could get as big as us. i didnt have a feeling that they were trying to get info or anything incriminating, just wanted to talk about juice and lifting. so i guess im just asking if you guys actually are aware when other cops are on?

Is there really a difference between a COP and a police officer? I had this asshole History teacher in the 7th grade who told us everyfucking day

"I was a Police Officer in Bumble Fuck, Texas. Never ever call me a COP because those are Citizens on Patrol. I'm not a Cop, I'm a police officer!"

sometimes that happens but it's rare...

speeding like an idiot will get you in trouble, like 120 in a 65 will get you a long lecture because you're basically shitting in the other cops yard, so to speak...

and acting like you're entitled to get off will get you some flak too..

but normally you're given a friendly "come on man just be safe", then you talk shop and tell jokes for a few mins and leave

lol

actually, while i would like to get paid more (who doesn't) I am not so sure... there are cops who are just rotten, like everyone else in society there are some bad apples...

we have a pretty low rate i think, but it's how "rotten" our apples can be that hurts us... one, one bad cop can make thousands, tens of thousands, look bad

i actually can't think of anyone personally that I think would be on them. I work out often in our gym and there are some big mofos there, but they're all hard work muscles, you know the look...

i am sure it must go on though, like everywhere else... there are some beefy fucks in other agencies, like on COPS and stuff and they look roided... i don't know, its really none of my business..

Is it common practice to have a cop using radar and radio to alert police up ahead of speeding cars?

Also, why do cops hide, then pull you over, then tell you that they're just trying to get people to slow down, knowing full well that being visible has more of an effect on a driver's speed than pulling them over? (I had on cop tell me that once, and it's always bugged me)

i would say I am like the majority, we're pretty laid back about the small stuff actually... in the bay area cops are usually pretty busy so we don't have to get everyone... in small towns there is not a lot of crime so it's not so much "boredom," it's just there is so much pressure to look like you're worth a damm that you can't afford to let as many people go...

just be respectful... don't try to fake it...

some people take themselves to fucking seriously...

i call myself the "po po"

i sometimes wear an undershirt with "Fuck Tha Police" on it...

no one should take themselves that seriously...

i don't like being called an "overpaid security guard," but I probably would not tongue lash someone like that... instead i would get them for every possible thing i can find in any of california's laws...

security guard eh? well i wasn't going to bother with this modified exhaust but...

some speed traps it is, just get a good hiding spot and radio to the pickup cars

because if you're parked on the side of the road people only slow down around you. if you pull cars over out of nowhere it scares people more, and they are more likely to drive the whole road slowly for fear of another hiding car...

works well on I-5 here...

This has GOT to be urban legend, but I always thought it was humorous.

Cops have a way to tell if your drivers license has been used to cut up lines of coke?

If you have someone pulled over on the opposite side of the road, is there any reason for people to slow down other than to rubberneck?
