The boards look much cleaner, again.

I guess it's up to individual posters to highlight their links in blue or whatever font, by underlining, or to just keep the links hidden...

So now the links are no longer blue, underlined, or a URL. They automatically switch to a description of their link which looks even more like ordinary text.

Cliffs: it's worse now than it ever was.

The ordinary text is why I started the whole thing in the first place, but I thought I could just get the links in posts changed which didn't work at all, and suffering the blue was bad enough but the underlines exacerbated the situation to an intolerable level.

I agree that the current setup is better than days prior, but when the link to another thread automatically changes to the name of that thread, there is no indication it is more than text unless the thread name gives a clue. Why no abbreviated URLs like before?

Ron A you need to throw your weight around and let vBulletin know to give you granular control to underline links before you have to fuck a bitch up

IB (Internet Brands) owns AZ and 200-300 other forums, so asking for something is not like it used to be when robb and adam did all the work in house. I don't believe IB owns VB or vice versa and think they are two different entities engaged in different aspects of forum activites, but will accept corrections if necessary.

This post is an excellent example of why we need some way to identify links in posts. I know blue didn't work, and underline didn't work. but there must be something out there for us.

I was very close to asking for pix in that thread, but then clicked on the "hidden link."

I think that "something" might be vb4.

changling link color inside a post - vBulletin.org Forum

I sent this in to IB, but it might only be applicable to vBulletin® Version 4 (I can't tell from what was posted because the wording was slightly ambiguous to me) and we're still running vBulletin® Version 3.8.7.

Maybe this will be the push they need to upgrade.

Whenever I post a link I just put the underline code around it. Been doing that for a while now with no problems and it only takes an extra second or two

Doubt they will upgrade considering the bulk licensing for all of their forums has to be very expensive. Then factor in the trouble and time to upgrade them all. Just for links? Doubtful. It will take a major security breach for that to happen.

Colored links are pretty standard. Just pick a blue that is a lot easier on the eyes. Or add a css class that inserts a superscripted "Link" text entity before every link.

Before they changed to text I would either post the link like this Click here for the post. or just post the link if lazy or there were too many links.

I guess I'll have to go back to doing it all the time or at least when I care if they know it's a link or not.

Yes, my interpretation of that thread was that there is an additional style sheet in vb4 that can be used to control the appearance of links in posts only, and that style sheet is not part of vb3.

That doesn't matter in the slightest. The page uses css so it can be edited whether the links have their own css doc or not.

You can do this via the admin panel's css text editor or you can just manually edit the css yourself (FTP). Both of which can be restricted to highest user class. So it may not even be an option for the great Ron A himself. I'm sure iB has it locked down pretty tight.

Internet Brands bought Jelsoft, the people who developed vBulletin and who owned it.

After they were satisfied that they knew enough about it to run it themselves, they got rid of the guys at Jelsoft.

They didn't care of course, because the partners made tonnes off the purchase.

Internet Brands does not own itself, which is amusing.

It's a publicly traded company that appears to be owned by a bunch of hedge funds (you could say that IB is a sort of hedge fund itself). Included among the hedge funds that own a major part of it is the Duke of Westminster's company, Grosvenor Capital.

If they ever just totally piss you off, Hugh Grosvenor's the guy to blow it up. :-)

IB had more money than they knew what to do with for quite a while. You might recall the hoo-ra when they paid for Honda-Tech, dumping 1.3 millions US like it was pocket change.

After they bought Honda-Tech, they left my access to admincp the same way it was when somebody else owned it.

You could really screw things up, potentially, if you did not know what you were doing.

The advantage, however, was that new forums could be added every time Honda changed a generation or added a model, and if a hue and cry developed to change how something looked, we could do that without talking to anybody.

However, let me say again: The default vBulletin blue theme is just about the best thing going. Maybe tweak the exact "maize" you want, but that is about it.

I've always found Acurazine to be a little hard to look at for extended periods.

One of the worst things IB ever did was that they assumed that because there was a custom Zeroforum dark theme, that this was what people wanted when they switched Honda-Tech to vBulletin.

Honda-Tech has been hard to look at ever since.

But, what can you do.

That's exactly what I was talking about. Before this thread, that link used to read, "https://acurazine.com/for...irror-918126". That was all we ever needed.
