1. take 2 flat head screw drivers, use one to create a gap and the other to pry the plastic light cover off.


2. after removing the plastic cover, in the center will be a 10mm bolt that needs to be unscrewed.


3. use a ratchet with a 10mm socket to remove the bolt.


4. wiggle the speaker cover lose and unplug the dome light plug.


5. remove the big suede and plastic cover to completely expose the mid-ranges. there will be two clips holding it in place, so juss use ur hands and pry it off.


7. after removing the speaker cover, there will be two screws on the side of the two mid-ranges. use a phillip screw driver to unscrew them.

8. each mid-range is held in place by a screw on the back of it, use a phillip screwdrive to unscrew.

9. clip the wires and screw in your new mid-ranges.


10. PUT EVERYTHING BACK AND ENJOY YOUR NEW MID-RANGES!

 

exellent DIY, but I cant use my midranges because of the aftermarket head unit.

 

wat did u use for new midranges??? wat size are they and the brand?/? anyone know how to remove the two front tweeter off the dash???

 

I have an aftermarket HU (Alpine) and u can definately connect it to the new HU. The 4 wires are clumped up in the blue harness. I stripped them and connected it straight to the HU. You can also connect it to an amp, but i think they're already loud enuff juss goin strait to the HU. They are: green/orange (+), green/red (-), green/blue (+), all green (-).

 

I'm using some stock Infiniti midranges that my bro gave me. I have no idea where he got them from and I believe they are 2 1/4". I think Ken also have some aftermarket midranges that he got for a real decent price. As for the dash tweeters, juss use a flat head to pop the grill, it's held down by two clips. I also had these replaced a long time ago.

 

Actually my midranges are stock. I couldnt find 2 inch Nakamichis. The other speakers however are all Nakamichis.

Interesting that you stripped the blue harness. I thought they ran on a different impedence.. no issues at all? I'm a bit of a stereo noob myself.

 

2.25" fit up there? I was looking for this diy but decided to leave those up there (they're not working due to alpine hu anyway). I was going to just replace my doors using a speaker ring made of mdf and maybe drill a hole in the kick panels for the tweeters.

on a side note, I just bought a Digital Design 3512 and it should be here by wednesday!

Dont flame me I kno I'm a novice I usually let tha "professional" installers handle It but they kill me with tha labor prices.

 

No issues that I've experienced so far...they work perfectly.

My 1998 3.2 has original HU, but I did not even realize there were midrange "center" speakers up there until reading this forum (which is a great one, by the way!). Any ideas on why the speakers might not work? Does anyone think that the previous owner may have just unplugged them??

 

They dont make a whole lotta noise. I think they're there to "raise" the soundstage, and they only produce certain frequencies - i put my ear upto them once and i could only hear certain high pitched tones.

 

Just as Vishnus said, they arent very loud. Instead they give a "surround" effect. The speakers to me, are noticeable most with good classical music or a guitar. The music is all around rather than coming from the lower part of the doors

 

THANKS so much for the info. I guess I'll get out some classical music & see if I can hear 'em BEFORE I start takin' stuff apart.....
