airbag question

does anyone know if the 06 s2000 airbag is a dual stage or not? and if so will it work on the 03cls?

Note sure. But it won't fit in the stock CLS steering wheel.

i saw a thread where the guy had an s2000 wheel on there. he didn't mention any kind of mounting issues just the airbag and controls.

He swapped the whole steering wheel. Same thing I may do with a RSX steering wheel.
If that's what your doing, I'm still not sure if an 06 will work. That may be too new.

I think he mentioned something about a resistor to trick it so that it worked properly.

i read that too. but he said that the s2000 bag is single so he had to "trick" the cl that it was a dual. so that why i wanted to know if the 06 s2000 was a dual or not hoping that i do not have to use a resistor and it's just a straight plugnplay.

got the s2000 wheel in

what would happen if i unplugged the airbag and left it off. would it effect the other airbags in the car? will srs light go on? will anything deploy? asking because i would like to change out the steering wheel first and then figure out the airbag situation later. did a test fit and it fits fine. looks and feels really good. i didn't want to fire up the car without the airbag plugged in and not knowing what would happen. so if anyone could let me know. thanks

If the drivers is not hooked up I think only teh SRS will light up. The passanger bag should not deploy.

We want pics when your ready. I haven't even touched my RSX wheel swap yet(4 months now)

will the pass air bag still function normally? and how do set it up so that the srs light does not come on?

yea. i was waiting to see how ur swap came out but i just couldn't help myself. i'll post pics as soon as i get enough info to run this wheel. did a test fit and it looks and feels great. (minus the honda sign)

I get from the manual that when the SRS light is on the entire system is disabled. I can't confirm for sure though. You can take the dash bulb for the SRS light out for now. Put a piece of tape on it? Other then that I don't know.

i'll probably try to ignore the light for now. as for "tricking" the ecu with resistor, have any clue as to where to start looking?

update:

FINALLY!!!! It's done and everything works!!!!!
here are the pics.

MODS:

-2006 s2000 steering wheel (hard wired)
-2003 honda odessey radio controls (direct plug in. needs a custom mounting bracket)
-2003 rsx cruise control (hard wired)

it was a pain in the ass. a whole lot of trouble shooting and reseting of the srs, but the pain was well worth it. this wheel feels so much better than stock. i have a new found love for driving my car now. it feels so much sportier than before. enjoy the pics guys. (still trying to see what i can come up with to change the "H" to "A")

Nice job!!! It looks good. Get an A on there and it will look factory fresh.
I've been wanting to try this with a 05 accord coupe wheel. My girl drives one and I like the way it feels way better. But most importantly it has up and DOWN buttons on the radio controls. Don't know why they left that out on ours but its really annoying. I think I want it more for that then the look or feel of the smaller sportier wheel. Wonder if it would work, but from the looks of your work anything is possible...

thanks. not sure if the accord radio controls is direct pnp, but you can alway use the 03 odyssey radio control. i got it for 30 bucks on a oem site (forgot which one). and since the accord already has radio controls you wouldn't have to make a custom bracket, just use the one that is there. if you ever get around to it let me know. i'll be glad to help in any way that i can. as for the "H", i wish they made one with an "A" so it would be a direct swap...but i'll keep you guys posted.

Basically, the 03 cls is a dual stage airbag so it has four wires (two wires per stage). if you were connectinganother dual stage then it should be fine. the S2k airbag i used was a single stage, so i had to "trick" the brain in thinking there was a second stage. the info i got was to use a 10 ohm resistor to make it think that there is another airbag. it must be different on all cars because when i did that it still triiggered the srs light. to be safe you should take resistance measurments on the second stage of the stock airbag. on mine it read 2.5 ohm when off and 5 ohms when it came on. i used 4-10ohm resistors in series to get it down to 2.5 ohm of resistance and connect it to the second stage. and the first stage i just hooked straight to the S2k bag.

side note: to reset the srs light (i'm a pro at this now )
-find mep plug (under driver side dash, 2pin green plug)
-unplug and attach wire to each.
-touch and hold together and turn key to "on" (do not crank)
-srs light turns off;un touch the two wire-srs light comes on
-touch the two wires-srs light goes off; un touch the wires
-srs light blinks twice
-turn key off and start the car

Good job! I don't really like that wheel though. The sold leather looks out of place. Not to mention the big H. Maybe I'm not used to it. Is it smaller then a stock wheel? It looks about the same size.

thanks fuzzy. the wheel is about 1/2" smaller all around so about 1" in diameter overall. it looks and feels alot smaller when you drive. alot more fun. i think you really have to see it person to really appreciate it. when i first got i thought it was a bad purchase because it didn't seem smaller but once i got it in there and working i really love it. The "H" is the only thing that is out of place and i'm working on something for it. i'll post pics as soon as i get it done. that should really make it look finished.

m733l- I can't tell from the angle of the pictures. Does the view of your gauge cluster change with the different wheel while siting in the driving position? Basically is it ubstructed at all? Did you have to adjust the height differently than with the stock wheel. I'm 6'2 and can't have the wheel down too low. I think I can do this just found an accord wheel for 100 bucks. Thanks

the wheel is a little smaller and i did adjust it a bit. i think i moved it up a touch. it's not obstructing the guage anymore than it did before. i can still see everthing just fine. what's the size of the accord wheel. might want to look into an rsx wheel. i think that would be an easier swap and you can use the cruise controls. plus you don't have to deal with the "H".
