Shift to P from D while in motion.

Has anyone had the car shift to park while driving?

While pulling out of the garage today, I press D, pull forward about a foot and then the car shifted to P.

Put it back in D drove forward about 4 feet then the transmission shifted to P again while in motion. Then I received several beeps that the door was not closed all the way. I’ve been having issues with the door not fully closing but never had the transmission shift to park.

Did I miss something in the manual? Seems like the door making a complete latch should not constitute a shift to P while in motion. What gives? Any thoughts?

It is designed to do that. If your seat belt is not fastened and the door is not completely closed, it will shift to park. Fasten your seat belt and it won't happen.

My 1st gen tlx would shift back to park if the door was not shut completely. Both from reverse or drive. Never liked the push button vs having a shift lever. Just the way they programmed it. Sometime I would want to back up with the door open to get a better look in the garage but of course it would go into park.

Also if I activated the reverse button too quick after starting the car it would stay in Park and I would just end up revving the engine. I tend to jump in and go and that would happen fairly frequently. I suspect that will be the case with 2nd gen as well. Not as annoying as forgetting to turn the auto-stop start and having the engine shut off for a momentary stop. Maybe they finally came up with a way to defeat it. I was able to buy a module for my current car on amazon that defaults it to disabled but could never find one that works on Acura's system.

Thanks.

Yeah what gives, I’ve driven my cars for years with the door open hanging out without a seatbelt… is this some kind of new age safety system??

Also the individual mode allows you to have the auto start stop disabled. So instead of pushing the auto start/stop button to disengage that system, I just push the individual mode and then I know it’s off for good.
