It does get warm, but haven't noticed any issues. I've noticed that the SLOW wireless charging barely keeps up with the battery being used. So, if my battery is low and needs to charge, I plug it in anyways.

I recently got the Carlinkit 5.0 and using it will my Samsung S23 for a couple weeks. It's been working very well with Android Auto so far.

Yes it is my experience that the battery will drain even when connected to wireless charge. The phone also gets very hot and the connection is spotty at best. I am glad the other person is having some success with a different brand.
I have now disconnected the Motorola wireless dongle and if android auto is required I hard wire.
