Wiper Blade Skipping Across Windshield

Hey all,

My 23' Type S has 2k miles on it, and for whatever reason the wiper blades were skipping across my windshield non-stop in the downpour today. I always clean them when I wash the car, and I clean the windshield by hand with glass cleaner after the car wash. Is there a lubricant, or some type of "wiper restore" product that someone could recommend?

Does anyone else have this problem with their TLX? Will the dealership replace the wiper blade inserts under warranty?

I’ve never seen my wipers do this. I’d ask your dealer as 2K miles isn’t long unless you’ve had it a while.

Have the wipers been used much? The last new car I had did this until the wipers had a decent amount of usage, then they settled down. Not saying yours will, just an observation.

No, this is the 2nd rainstorm that I've encountered since I purchased the car back in June. So, I was actually wondering if maybe what you're suggesting is the case as well. I'll continue to monitor it, and if it does continue, I'll see if the dealership will swap out the rubber inserts.

Wouldn't they consider this a consumable? Not sure about the life expectancy of it though

Is there some reason you are using glass cleaner on the windshield after you wash the car? Depending on what chemicals are in the glass cleaner, that could be your problem, and could be causing drag. Try finishing with a quick detailer instead, which will add some slickness to the windshield. For example, I use Blackfire Instant Detailer as I dry my entire car, including the glass. I've never had an issue with my wipers chattering, like you explain. I typically will only use glass cleaner on the inside of the windows of the car, never the exterior.

I will try some quick detailer - good idea!

Sometimes you can get a bad set or bad one. Also, they should be walking across and not skipping lol.

If you can demonstrate the skipping to the dealership, I am pretty sure they will at least try to fix it under warranty.

Your car is fairly new and you can easily replicate the issue to the dealer. Despite it being a consumable, wipers should last a minimum of one year!

Kind of what I thought. I always thought the rule of thumb with consumable parts it was 12 months/12k miles?

Either way, I'm going to swing by there later this week and have them replaced. I don't see why they would give me any issue.
