Windshield Wiper Wobbling

Try saying that 5 times...anyways, when my wipers are on, the lower part of the main blade wobbles around while the top part stays glued to the window. The wipers still wipe the windshield ok, the wobble just annoys me.

Anybody else have this? How does one fix this?

fyi, I have relatively new bosche icons on.

When you say the wipers are new, do you replace the whole thing or just the inserts (if that's even possible with the Icons)? The springs get weak over time and can cause that problem.

The other thing I can suggest is putting a Rain-X like product on the blades themselves. This will make them a little more slippery and less prone to that jittering. Also clean your windshield real good. A good clay barring every once in a while does wonders. If you look at the bar afterwards it's amazing how much crap it picks up off the glass.

While you're at it, also check to make sure the blade prongs are fully inserted into the notches in the rubber inserts-- it sounds like one end of the insert is loose, or the prongs are too widely spaced (just press the prongs closer around the insert with padded pliers if that is the case).

Edit: Assuming that applies to the Icons...

nope, Icons are one piece. I have the same wipers, but don't have that problem. I would wipe down the wipe blades as some chemical (from the manufacturing process) may still be on there. If it still wobbles, go and get another wiper (return the old one) and see if it does the same thing.

Claybar or other window cleaning Good!- putting anything on bosch blades- Bad

Is your car subject to the recall on the wiper motor???
maybe thats the motor death warning sign
call acura with your vin and ask if you need to see the dealer for recall
1-800-382-2238x5 ask about the power steering hose recall too- all you gen3rs need to get that done! === underhood Fire- BAD!!!!

Make sure you bought side A blades for each arm- the B models are for wipers that work the opposite direction than ours- we have 2 different size blades but both the A model

That's unlikely. I've had the recall repair done and I noticed a bit of the juddering he describes when I was driving in the rain last night.

YUP me too, I am running the PIAA Silicone blade and have the wobbling issue, kind of makes the wipers look cheap when it does that on a 30k car.

Since you have the silicon ones, I would think that there is too much friction on the wiper blade, did you put some sort of sealant on the glass like rain-x recently? (to the poster I quoted, you have the silicon ones, so the treatment is on the glass already.)

I'm thinking its the OEM blade and bracket housing because I have what you are having with the entire bottom half of the driver side blade, it wobbles/shakes as it goes across the windshield and is quite annoying since it is in your line of sight when you are trying to drive!

going to either put Trico NeoForms or Bosch Icons on in a week or so! a lot of people on here have recommend the PIAA super silicon's but I really don't want the old bracket housing technology!

I too have been experiencing this same problem for the past year or so. I had my car to the Acura dealership numerous times, one time for 3 days. They even brought in their top of the line engineer and still couldn't figure out a solution.

I had my local mechanic take a look and his only idea was to install rubber blades instead. Still, I'm having the same problem.

Has anybody come up with a solution? I cannot stand driving my 05 TL in the rain! Not only is the wobble terrible but the squeaky noise drives me up the wall!

I tried using the Rainex windshield wiper 2 in 1 cleaner. That hasn't helped the situation at all.

I just ordered PIAA wiper blades. Maybe that will solve the wobble and noise. I'm thinking of writing to Acura National since my local dealership is saying there's nothing else they can do.

PIAA wipers still wobble but there isn't that shrieking noise anymore. Still not a solution but better nonetheless.

I'm beginning to think the issue is with the windshield being that I have gone through three different brands of wipers and have had everything mechanical replaced. I don't know what else to do! Anybody out there with any ideas?

Take it to the dealer or shop and see what they find?

I've done that numerous times already. They've replaced literally everything related to the windshield wipers (motor, arms, blades, inserts, etc.) They told me they've done all they could. I'm beginning to think something is wrong with the windshield itself but I don't know. The PIAA silicon wipers do make things better as the noise is gone but the wobble remains.

In my experiences, Rain-X (the treatment, *not* the blade brand) is the only thing guaranteed to make my wipes bounce/jitter across the windshield.

I recommend using rubbing alchol (Isopropyl alcohol) to clean the windshiled. The alcohol will remove all traces of anything that might be causing the bouncing, such as any Rain-X treatment.

I had these issues and never used Rain-X. The dealer even buffed down the windshield in the area where the wobble was happening (lower half of the drivers side wiper) and still nothing seemed to work. Then I tried Rain-X but to no avail. I cleaned it off and used the wipes that came with the PIAA wipers to get rid of everything on the windshield. They did smell like they contained alcohol. Maybe I'll give the rubbing alcohol a shot. I'm willing to try anything at this point.

^ Try the plain alcohol.

Rain-x smells like alcohol too. Because the alcohol in the Rain-x is a solvent (carrier) for the active ingredient, silicone. BTW, it is a bear trying to remove any silicone from a surface.

Use the alcohol and many paper towels (changing often) to remove the silicone from your glass and *wiper blades* too.

That packet of wipes that came included with your PIAA wipers is probably the same thing as Rain-X, a silicone based chemical. I guarantee you those wipes were not just alcohol. The alcohol in those free wipes was carrying a silicone compound onto the surfaces that you wiped it with.

I wish I knew about this before I purchase new PIAA silicon blades...

The dealer did wash and buff out the windshield. You think using rubbing alcohol would be the solution? The only part of the blade that wobbles is the lower half of the drivers side blade.

I know the PIAA blades have the silicon rub off from the blade itself. Could I clean off the windshield with rubbing alcohol and still use my PIAA blades or should I switch back to conventional blades? If you recommend me not using the silicon blades, which blade would you recommend?

^ For wiper blades, I use and recommend the Rain-X Weatherbeater (how ironic) or wipers from Michelin.

Beyond doing a good job of wiping the glass, I have just one criteria in a wiper bland --- that the rubber doesn’t split apart in under a year. Many brands, including some big names, will have the rubber split along where it flexes in less than 12 months.

However, Rain-X Weatherbeater (click here) and Michelin wipers will refuse to split for many years. My current set of Rain-X Weatherbeater blades on my car is 3 years old and on the wife’s car are 2 years old. Both still showing no signs of rubber splits or poor wiping performance.

As a side note, the Weatherbeater wipers from Rain-X do claim to have some kind of a surface treatment embedded into them. I only know that I have tried most common brands, which I didn't like. Whereas, the Rain-X Weatherbeater wipers have always worked great for me. By the way, I can’t stand the slightest skipping/jumping of the blade. Needless to say, my blades don’t skip along the glass.

My wiper skipping / wobbling problem happened with the OEM blades on. I only recently used Rain-X and PIAA Silicon blades to try to alleviate the problem. Do you think the rubbing alcohol could still solve the problem?

Thanks for asking because I had wanted to include a comment that I had forgot earlier.

The alcohol is not a sure thing. The alcohol is just worth trying …. Ranked high on the list of things to try however.

But would you recommend I try the rubbing alcohol and still use my PIAA blades? They would just reapply the silicon off the blades. Since I had the windshield buffed at the dealer, I really don't think there's anything on the windshield causing the wobble. I think I'm going to have to write Acura nationally and see what they can do for me.

For sure, give the alcohol a try. Keep the PIAA blades but wipe the blades with the alcohol too along the rubber that contacts the glass. Wipe the glass too with the alcohol. Use plenty of paper towels, changing towels often.

If the alcohol fails to solve it, perhaps try another brand of blades (I suggest a couple of brands in 4 post above).

Please keep us updated.
