I'm currently an owner of an 08 G35X. Bought it new back in 2008. Before I bought the G, I was debating whether to buy the TL-S with the 6 speed, the RL, and the G. Ultimately I went with the G because I didn't care for FWD with an automatic trans and my wife was against me buying a manual trans.
Anyway, yesterday I went to check out the TLX Type S and the Integra Type S.
Looking at the TLX, when I went to sit in the back seat, behind the driver, I noticed the lack of legroom and headroom, which has been mentioned multiple times in this forum, but I also hit my head when I was getting into and out of the back seat. I'm not tall by any stretch, 5' 9".
The Integra had a bit more legroom but getting in and and out, I had the same issue as the TLX.
Have current owners heard complaints from rear seat passengers? Have prospective buyers of either car purchased another car instead because of this and if so, what car?
I was looking at a Type-S but leg room in the back was so lackluster I went and bought an 2022 M3 Competition xDrive instead, super fast and had enough room in the back! /s
Excuse me let me be serious now, Hi OP I have a 2023 TLX Type-S. I don’t have passengers in my back seat often but the very few times I did. I didn’t receive too many complaints from them (maybe on the count of I usually have my seat positioned abit more forward.)
I will say the back seats isn’t for a tall person. If you are going to use the back seats a lot then the TLX and maybe Integra might not be ideal due to their sloping low slung fast back design causing would be buyers to lose head room space.
Depends if you are looking new, used, and want to stick with the Acura family. I have an 18 RLX Sport Hybrid (377hp/341tq, 7DCT, sh-awd, 27-34 mpgs range, HUGE comfy back seat, 8yr/100,000 mile EV component warranty, under 5 second 0-60 mph). You can almost purchase two RLXs for the price of one Type-S TLX/Integra depending on the RLX year/mileage.
if you're actually looking to buy a car and keep it after the warranty expires, i'd think good and hard about a bimmer.
Been there...done that.
Facts! There's a reason why 3-4 year old BMWs appear to be really great deals on the used market. Before I picked up the used AV6 Touring, I was set on getting a 335i/340i but got cold feet in consideration of maintenance/repair costs.
I haven't had an adult in my Type-S backseat lol. Also it has a booster behind the passenger seat so that space is taken. So nothing to report as far as feedback.
I warn people before I let them get in the back seat. So far only short drives and no complaints.
I do the same thing. I will also move my front seat up further than I normally do to accommodate their leg space. So far, I haven't had any complaints.
Yeah, I get moving the seat up a bit helps give the passenger behind the driver leg room. Did that in my previous cars as required. But there's nothing that can be done with that head knocker sloping roofline when you get into and out of the car besides warning the passenger to duck.
Just a bit disappointing, since these are supposed to be 4 door sedans...
TBH, in this price range plus or minus 5-10k, there are options, Golf R, Golf GTI, Q50 Red Sport (okay, yes old design!), Supra 3.0 GR (yes, 2 seater)....

When you buy a TLX, you are getting compact interior space w/midsize exterior. The only saving grace for the MY24 Type S models is that they finally come w/surround cameras (US market)!
Now go and test drive M340 and you’ll never go back to check TLX again
Strange coming from someone who said this to me in a prior thread:

I don't want to hear anymore whining and would like to see you practice what you preach!
On the rare occasion that I have someone in the backseat, the front passenger and/or I move the seat forward to accommodate them. No issues. If rear seat accommodations were a high priority for me, I might have considered other vehicles, but for me the backseat is only there for the occasional use, therefore the TLX's awesome styling and proportions are worth the sacrifice in rear seat spaciousness. BTW, this was a deliberate decision by Acura according to the designers of the TLX. By their estimation, the majority of customers who prioritize cabin and cargo space have already moved on to crossovers, leaving them room to design the sedan with more of a 2+2 mentality, prioritizing sexy proportions and front-seat comfort with the rear seat there when you need it. It's why the Integra, based on the mass-market Civic, has as much or more rear seat/cargo space as the larger TLX with the Acura-developed platform.

+1
Since this current gen came out, dealers have been telling customers that if they need more room, they should just go into an RDX/MDX! I don't see anything wrong w/this segmentation and if you want a more traditional sedan, get the Integra instead (albeit you will lose SHAWD)!
I have an 11 and 12 year old in the back every day in my Type S and they love it. Baby seats and full size adults are probably not ideal, but no one has ever complained. I came from a Q50S which should be somewhat similar to your G35 and i would say the rear seat of the Q50 was bigger then the type S, but not obscenely so. Our second vehicle is an odyssey, if i could only have one vehicle it would be a van for sure, its just too practical. You kind of just need to decide whether the back seat room is a deal breaker for you or not, and if it is, get yourself a big juicy van!
I'll be honest, my kids 16/13 like the backseat least in my TLX versus our MDX and Accord. It is ironic how much my TLX dwarfs my 9G Accord on the outside but the interior of my Accord is cavernous by comparison.

TLX is one of the biggest and widest sedans yet second row is so tiny heh
I have yet to find someone who solely purchases a vehicle with backseat room as a priority. Since it’s a weakpoint of the TLX and all the YouTubers like to mention it, it’s something non-owners dwell on.
As others mentioned, if you don’t plan on having adults in the back on a regular basis, you’ll be fine. I throw my two kids in the back on a daily basis and don’t have issues.

Someone might not purchase based on the backseat room, but the backseat can absolutely be a dealbreaker that prevents a buyer from buying a car. Case in point, the TLX is pretty much a no-go for anyone who has kids in rear facing car seats, even though it has marginally more legroom than the TLX. It has to do with the geometry of the seats; the TLX front seats are so thick and angled that it makes the rear feel even smaller than the numbers suggest.
I, too, got hung up on the current TLX back seat issues until I sat back and realized I already have this same issue with my 4G TL. My last little one will be going from rear-facing to foward-facing in a few months and we use my wife's MDX for 99% of family hauling duty anyway, so it's a non-issue for me. Pushes me further toward a new TLX unless something else interesting comes into play.
I'm scratching my head how people cross shop a sport sedan to a minivan. An SUV is just a minivan with better marketing. If the back seat is an issue wouldn't a better comparison be an upper end AWD 5 series? Ironically still cheaper than an MDX Type S.

there are people who don’t like suvs and put people who aren’t midgets in the back and the room there is important to them
they are all small, honestly. If you need a bigger back seat you need to switch classes such as a e class or 5 series or perhaps a SUV.
+100 you think that you have so much room in G70, IS, S4 or any other car in this class - YOU DON'T. If back seat is so much concern for you you're shopping in the wrong class.
