To Trade Or Not To Trade; 1G A-Spec for 2G A-Spec
Looking for some input on this… Really conflicted…
I purchased an ’18 TLX A-Spec 3.5 FWD in May of last year with 34k miles on it for $26,400. Still Night Pearl/Red Leather.
Car has been great, excepting for when the dealership scratched it during a service appointment resulting in them having to repaint both left side doors for blending. The front bumper has seen better days (previous owner mush have been a serious tailgater), and the dealership will do a full R&R, repaint for $660 plus tax. The car now has 48.4k miles, so encroaching on end of warranty.
Now comes the dilemma. While at the dealership for service last week, I asked to drive the ’21 A-Spec. They didn’t have any in stock, but did have a demo that the GM has been driving. The car has 5k miles on it and has never been titled. I drove it, and of course really liked it. They took a look at mine and offered $28,500…that’s right…$2,100 MORE than I paid for it a year ago. On top of that, they are discounting the new demo nicely and because it is still new, I can take advantage of the $2,500 loyalty rebate as well as Acura’s 0.9% financing.
All in all, I trade keys, keep my payment the same, add 23 months to the term (37 months remaining on my current loan), and give them $0 driving out the door.
I would likely purchase and install (myself) the full aero kit which can be found online for ~1,100 shipped.
I really like my current A-Spec, but feel this is a great deal.
Particularly interested in feedback from others who’ve moved from a 1G 3.5 FWD TLX to the 2G.

I've owned a 2018 Aspec SHAWD and currently drive a 2021 Aspec SHAWD. While I tolerated the 2018, I love the 2021. The 2021 is another level altogether.

How much is "nicely"? This number determines if this is a good deal, even with the $28,500 they're offering for your 2018. It's good that it has the benefits of being untitled, but mileage-wise, it's a used car. IMHO, anything more than 35K is not a good deal.

Well, I traded up my 19 3.5 PAWS for a 21 A-Spec FWD this past Saturday. With 6 months left on my lease, my dealer offered $2,500 over lease payoff as a trade in rather than going the lease turn in route.
My biggest hesitation was that I'd miss my V6, largely thinking that the 21 wouldnt be as quick as the 19. Long story short, my sentiment echoes Pens Fan's post. Even as a FWD version, the handling prowess over the 1G PAWS is quite simply night/day.
In it's stock form, it'd definitely lose out to the outgoing V6 on a highway run (in Mexico, of course). (My old 19 would pull fairly hard right up to it's governed limit.) But some tuning from K-Tuner would probably turn the tables.
Quite frankly, it's the nicest sedan I've ever owned.

The only reason you’d give pause to moving from a 1G TLX A-spec to the 2G is if you’re in Canada and your A-spec was also an Elite (Advance in the US) which means you have the best of both worlds. But if yours wasn’t an Elite A-spec then you’re not missing anything by going with the 2G A-spec and you’d have a more refined car to boot.

I had an Elite ASpec from 2018, albeit a 2.4, which I really enjoyed. I lost a couple of features moving to a 2021 ASpec, but gainingothers including the superior looks, a more luxurious interior, a significant upgrade on the sound system, and more power and improved handling, I would go for the deal they are offering....as long as you have driven the car sufficiently to ensure all is well,
