They should just bag it & start over with the 2023 model.

And a $60K vs an $80K car, Acura is chasing the wider profit margin and the far more popular vehicle type (SUV vs sedan). Sucks for those waiting on a TLX-S but unfortunately makes a lot of sense.

And arguably the MDX is nicer because it's in a higher tier anyway with the digital dash and what not.

The lack of oomph is also less of an issue for the MDX than the TLX. The MDX Type S doesn't compete with the performance (or even performance-lite) version of the competition when it comes to power, so power/weight ratio is actually relatively good for it. It competes with the base-ish version of the competition (X5 xDrive40i, Q7 55, GLE450, XC90 T6, etc.) and it does so quite well. Not being the fastest is also more foregivable for a 3-row family crossover than it is for a self-purported precision crafted performance machine.

Well, not so much chasing profits. Think about it. The TLX has been out for some time. The MDX Type S needed to be released and as many veh. as possible that they
could get out to dealers. It was already delayed...so, they needed to get some made and out the door. In this tough manufacturing environment they can't make all the models
they'd like in the quantities that customers are asking for.

V6-355hp is good, but I think all MDX should have that (they are big and heavy ... especially when loaded with people and their stuff)
Good that 12v battery is apparently not under front-hood any more.
Less under-hood black-plastic covers is better.
Digital-Dash (finally catching-up to everyone else ... including Honda).
Speaker placement is cool (see larger speaker in center console)

Undecided:
I don't see the light-tubes, but hopefully is still has recessed programmable RGB ambient lighting.

Cons:
Non-Touch MMI (especially if still just one USB data-port)
The red color is too much. Who wants that ? What's wrong with fast and normal-looking ? (its a 7-passenger SUV)

The MDX Type S has the iconic lighting. Dash color matches the seat color. There’s a blue seating/dash color only available with the silver exterior. The configurator is live on Acura.com.

Oh, I didn't know the 2022 MDX Type-S was actually online.

Ok, so you are not forced into red leather on any config that I could tell. The red-stitching is ok.

I like a black seat with red stitching, unfortunately I could not get it on either car. What pissed me off was its availability on some other less expensive models. Did not want to wait on a custom package to be done. 133 days was long enough.

Two exterior colors, Lunar Silver Metallic and the Tiger Eye, are offered with the Azurite Blue interior. It's a dark blue but looks fantastic in the Configurator, at least. They should offer it with white and the darker gray.

I agree about the red being "too much." I have a red leather interior in my Stinger, so it's not that I hate red, but it looks ridiculous in an SUV. Perhaps its the shade (it's super bright) or just that there is so much of it in a large vehicle. I had an A-Spec MDX for a few days as a loaner with that interior and it didn't "sit right" with the vehicle, sporty pretentions or not.

They just have one for display and test drives purposes at the moment. Sweet car and excited to get one soon

It depends on dealer to dealer. Most and I use that lightly, will require a deposit (Apron. $250-$1000) and a signed buyers order/purchase agreement. Some may require a finance application as well. Many dealers are on a 3-6 month wait now due to inventory shortages so they will tell you to hang on and we will call you when we have a better idea of production AKA being put on the waiting list.

I test drove the regular MDX A-spec with the NA V6 and thought it's got more than enough power. It doesn't feel like the car was under powered. I actually went up a nearby mountain road (1/4 mile elevation) just to see how it does up a mildly long hill and the engine didn't sound like it was struggling going over the speed limit. The sound insulation helps I guess. I think the MDX being one of the lightest SUVs in the class helps. It also has noticeably more power than the likes of XC90 T5 (250hp), Q7 45 (248hp), and GLE350 (255hp). These are are close to 5000lb while the MDX Aspect AWD is just a tad over 4500lb.

I've been with the same Acura dealership for approx. 10 yrs and I've never had to put a deposit down, sign anything ever. I just call my Inv. Mgr. friend and tell him what I want,
ask what's coming in etc. He puts my name on it and it's mine IF I end up wanting it. The KEY issue is this....IF I didn't take the car they KNOW they can sell it in a very short time.
Been that way with my Ford dealer too. Same thing. Never any deposits, etc. It helps to have established great relationships.

I'm waiting on a '22 Type S to be built. Date has moved 4 times. I told him IF it moves ahead a lot like it did the last time, I'll probably pass and maybe wait to be #1 on the '23 list....OR take a hard
look at what the new Integra has to offer....esp. in a Type S configuration. He said..."no problem"...we'll sell whatever you don't buy." I'm also #1 on his Integra list...and have been for many months. I wanted
to make sure that IF it was something I wanted I could get it early on.

That red interior in the MDX looks terrible. Running it along the bottom dash and door panels is way too much. Overall I just don't red interiors. I have seen it in the TLX A-spec in the showroom and it looked sharp but to look at it everyday would give me major regret. Just my 2c.

I am not into buying at msrp or above but currently 80% of new cars are selling at over MSRP. This seems like a decent deal. Chances are MSRP will be going higher for the next year or more. So the future MSRP may be higher than the $1500 over MSRP now.

That's what I was thinking. If you want the car (and it's the right color and trim (ie equipment) ... an extra $1500 is nothing. Especially in current environment.

Can maybe even be wiped-out with a loyalty-discount or a little extra on your trade. Wheel and deal buddy, and drive-away with your new car.

Fat chance most dealers ain't doing no discounts besides Military/Student discount. Acura themselves are excluding the Type-S from the loyalty discounts. But also $1500 isn't bad. I know if my dealer tries the ADM I will leverage it for free accessories or free year or two of maintenance. That's the only way I can/will pay for ADM.

getting to the point that emp. will have to be let go. THAT's why some dealers are adding the ADM's. They are trying to get some cash flow to keep the lights on...literally!!
My dealer sells at MSRP only. But, no cars to sell. Can order...but, delays...so, can't tell cust. when they will be built.

These are just the facts.
They still have all of their service, body shop and parts business. And every dealer I see is loaded up with used cars that are selling for a LOT more than they were. I personally know the owners of a few dealerships. They are very wealthy. I’ll bet that if the typical dealer added $2,500 to every new car they sell it would add up to less than what the owners make in a year.

Just for grins I just looked up the used vehicle inventory at the Ford dealer near me. They have 56 used vehicles in stock right now. I live in a city of 25,000. And many of the vehicles are not cheap. Almost half of them are listed for over $40,000.

I find is almost unbelievable that the MDX only weighs about 300 lbs more than the TLX-S. The MDX is huge.

Kind of like the Panamera and the Cayenne. People were in disbelief at the weight of the Panamera which weighs as much or sometimes more than the Cayenne.

The Panamera is a very large car in terms of exterior dimensions.

I realize this thread is over a year old, but I’m in the market for a 23 TLx type s at around MSRP. Anyone know of a dealer in the NY area that is selling at MSRP and has inventory?

probably all of them since TLX Type-S inventory is beginning to pile up and sit there weeks before being sold. So I’d give a couple local dealers a call and see. Maybe try Paragon Acura first?

I would not go to Paragon Acura. I've heard nothing but horror stories.

If you're near the City, I'd say give Rallye or Valley Stream a try. Rallye currently has 24 TLX-S's and Valley Stream has 16. I see no reason why either would charge over MSRP with that kind of inventory. I test drove my TLX-S at Smithtown and they were very professional. Even back when the car was just released, they told me they weren't charging over MSRP. They currently have 13.
