Real world 2021-2023 Type S fuel mileage?
Good day,
Already considering upgrade to current Type S.
Whom can provide solid highway MPG numbers as well as 50-50 mix numbers? This would be my main vehicle for sales calls where I usually drive 100-300+ miles per day.
Like my 2020 3.5 TLX but... Horsepower! Of course I realize lower MPG is a direct result of increased power. Plenty of new within 100 miles or so. Even CPO 2021 with under 14k close by.
Thanks

Strictly city driving, in stop and go traffic, I get about ~15.5mpg - I’m sure it would be better if I did highway driving, but that’s not the case for me.

The Type S is a fantastic car, but if you're after good MPG's this is not a good choice. When I first got the car I was babying it like crazy to try and get good gas mileage out of it. I then told myself I'm crazy for doing that, just drive the car as it was meant to be driven. Before I was averaging a little over 19mpg with a 90/10 city/hwy mix. After it's right about 18 mpg with the same mix. Not terrible, but not great either.

2020 TLX 3.5 does 26 or so all day in city.. Have been pretty consistent on highway at 30-32. Just a smidgen less than Accord 3.5 ran. So that corresponds to extra weight TLX carries.
Any other input?

Provided as a reference ... and I only know this because the car's computer is tracking it (I tend to not care).
The 2.0L-4c-Turbo in my 2021 Audi A5-coupe (with Quattro AWD) is rated at 261hp / 273lb-ft (and will do 0-60 is 5.3 seconds ... easy). I tend to drive around in S (instead of D) so the Auto-Stop/Start (ASS) never engages. I also tend to keep the A/C on pretty-much year-round as it helps keep the air drier.
Pretty much, I (unintentionally) do everything wrong if trying to get good gas mileage. But, like I said ... it's just not a high-priority for me. Another reference data-point is EPA's estimated Combined is 27mpg.
Apparently, I'm getting 21mpg City and around 26mpg Highway.
On the other-hand, with the wife's Q5-e PHEV's (350hp hybrid) ... for a day's worth of driving around town running errands ... we get around 80 mpg.

I average about 19mpg with a mixture of city and highway. It’s pretty similar to the 2019 TLX ASPEC SH-AWD I had prior to the Type S.
I don’t baby the car at all. I didn’t buy a Type S to drive it like a Prius. As a daily driver it’s a great vehicle. As a vehicle you drive around for work I wouldn’t recommend it.

your VAG car is telling you what fuel milage its getting and you’re goona believe them?? JK. My GLI got the best fuel milage of any car ive ever had, when it was on the road and not getting repaired.
my commute is probably worst case scenario for fuel milage. In the winter i auto start it for around 10 minutes, drive 2km, through a road with speed humps every 100m or so, then stop and drop kids off at school, start and drive 7km to work with 3 stop lights, and 8 stops signs, and 2-3 days a week ive got a vacant curvy route that i drive “assertively” on. Usually driven in my independednt mode of sport engine/comfort suspension or sport+. The Type S gets by far the worst mileage of any vehicle of ever driven on this commute. Im talking 12-16 mpg bad. The auto start really destroys the milage but my comfort is worth something. In summer its 17-18 when im not auto starting. Pure highway trips i get around 26ish.

My full-tank mileage always averages out to 21ish. Got it end of Oct so only winter conditions (40-55F) on summer tires so far.
Rarely drive in stop-go traffic, maybe 10%. Otherwise always spirited driving. 80/20 hwy/cty
I was getting 17.5 when I got it.. then figured that it is probably charging the battery after shipping all the time ) Charged it once, getting 21 since then.

As a Type S owner myself, I get around EPA numbers on city and highway. The best I’ve seen on HWY was 29mpg on a 30 mile trip going 80mph.

Though I did achieve 26-27 mpg this weekend on the highway in comfort mode for a 40 mile drive.
My only thing is I feel like I sip through gas faster since the gas tank capacity in the 2G TLX’s are slightly smaller than the 1G TLX’s gas tank (15.9 gal Vs 17.2 gal)

Safety Car
I must be driving a different car because my 23 type s doesn't go a hair above 24 mpg even if I'm driving on highway.
Do you guys manually shift or let the car do it? I am in full auto, but if the numbers are better with manual, I may try it.

Advanced
I'm running 15-17mpg in town which is always sport mode. My first road trip was around 120 miles with cruise locked at 78 all the way (midnight drive, so no highway traffic) and I hit 26mpg (engine in Comfort mode). That was with only about 600 miles on the car. From experience with my previous vehicles (Honda's), mpg seemed to improve after 2500 miles or so. On that same trip I just took, my 2016 Accord V6 (3.5L) has hit 40 mpg, but averages 35-37mpg. Don't know that the TypeS will ever get to that, but I'll wait to see after I get many more miles on it.
