Wow, not just Platinum, and not just Elite, but Platinum Elite.

I'd really love to understand what focus groups they studied to conclude that Candians prefer the name "Platinum Elite" and Americans prefer the name "Advanced".

 

Acura Canada = utterly stupid.

 

Any educated guesses as to what the Canadian Type-S will cost? The Q50 Red Sport starts at $56,745 and tops off at $61,945. The GS starts at $64,150 but I doubt Acura will price the Type-S this high since they cannot command this type of premium. My guess is we're going to see a price more inline with Infiniti's offerings. Going to say $57000 to $60000. Would love to see Tech and Elite/Advanced trims for the Type-S but doubt this will happen either.

 

I'm guessing Type S starts at $55K. The question is will it have two trims or just one? If there's a higher trim it's close to $60K.... It's definitely knocking on German competitors pricing (S5,C43AMG)... This car better perform and those power numbers be underrated......

I want an acura over the M340i but if ur going after the benchmark for starting price (62k Cad) u better be offering more performance or something cuz ur the 1 with something to prove... ur supposed to undercut them in price while offering more.. not less performance at the same price.

Yeah, the Canadian Acura models often gets Folding Mirrors when we in USA don't. I've always wondered what is up with that.
At least we know it's possible in future-year models.

You may be right, but those are pretty common everyday features you’d expect in the middle to upper level trims of cars in this segment. Why delete them from the “top of the line” model??

It just makes no sense whatsoever.

 

Trying to understand how Acura decides to package their trim levels will drive even the most level-headed person into madness.

 

Not a huge surprise with the packages, some positives, some disappointments, but as Mick says, "you can't always get what you want".....I would lean to the 2.0 ASpec or the Platinum Elite., wishing there was a combo like my 2018 Elite ASpec, but understadning the price would be greater given the all the other goodies.

 

The 2.0T might have more low-end torque than the outgoing V6 but it doesn’t sound nearly as good. In a way, it’s the same situation as the 991.1 and the 991.2. Going to forced induction with lower displacement may have yielded better numbers, but 911 fans are still grieving over the change in the engine note.

I kind of regret selling my 2018 A-spec Elite now.

 

Very glad that the Canadian Type-S is equipped with power-folding exterior mirrors, unlike the US version. This is the crucial feature that will make or break my purchase.

Now, I can't wait for the factory colour chart for the Type-S to come out.

 

This is the most retarded list... I can deal with no HUD an even tho it sucks, no heated rear seats... But no surround camera? That's something you would use every day... Why are they fucking with the people who are trying to buy their Top trim?!

Curb weight is a major killer to vehicle performance. If the Type-S is armed to the teeth with all possible options, it would be overweight, and would drive like a pig, thereby defecting the purpose of creating the higher-performance Type-S in the first place.

Keep in mind that the Honda ultimate-performance Type-R model trim is always the slim down version of the original regular model.

 

You know what's silly to me? The fact that only Platinum Elite and Type S get the customizable ambient lighting while the other trims don't. The US let's you customize the lighting in most trims, even A-Spec. Who decided that Canadians don't need that.

But at the same time, we got remote start, heated steering, windshield de-icer, LED Fogs. I'd be pretty pissed if I lived in the US in like Michigan or anywhere that has a decent winter.

 

I could live with saving weight but how much weight does a 360 Camera add?!

 

The Type S shouldn’t be treated like it’s another trim level. It’s got an entirely different engine for heavens sake. Are there features on the 911 Turbo that you can’t get on, say, a C4S? Are there features that a few years ago, were available on the R8 4.2 that weren't available for the 5.2??

The same goes for the S4, M340i, and the C43. They don’t get fewer features than the A4, 330i, and the C300. I mean, the absence of those features that other folks here and I have expressed disappointment in are absolutely available in the Type S’ competitors. I’m sorry for being a little long-winded about this, but we went through this with the A-spec on the RDX already. Oh well, I thought I was done with Acura, now I’m sure of it.

 

Hopefully it's a mistake they can fix by next year. Add another trim to Type-S or make it fully loaded. Once you break the 50k mark, adding 1-3k extra for user wanted options is not a bad investment. For people complaining about weight ... well if they had developed a more powerful engine it wouldn't matter too much. Rolls-Royce weigh a ton but engine makes up for it.

I owned two NSXs back in the 90s and when the Type R came out, it was essentially the same car but with different tuning, weight reduction, upgraded suspension and other aero bits and bobs. It didn’t even get any significant improvements power wise. It was a stripped down track day special. That was truly a different “trim level” similar to the Grand Sport vs Stingray differences in the C7 Corvette world.

But the Type S is not the Type R version of a car in the Honda sense, nor is it the Grand Sport version of a Stingray in Corvette-speak.

They had so much positive hype from the blue concept last year and then they just took a sharp left and made so many mistakes... For fucks sake, imagine living in Buffalo and paying 55k and not getting heated steering wheel, power folding mirrors, wiper de-icer, remote start, 360 camera, and heated rear seats. I'm from Canada and the 360 camera alone pisses me off since it would be something a top of the line "luxury" sedan should have!

 

This is head scratching given a mid trim Accord already have most of the features you listed.

 

The funny thing is why would anyone even buy a Type S at all. It’s only got about 355 hp so it’s still going to be a slug. It’s going to have worse fuel consumption than the 2.0T. It will have fewer features than the Platinum Elite which costs less. People who want 20” wheels and tires can just get those in the aftermarket. Seriously, WTH Acura??

 

Price wise, Type-S is not too bad since it may stay below 60k in Canada. It seems the Canadian models are about 3-4k more compared to US prices. So 52-55k comes out to about 56-60k. Now, are people willing to spend 60K on a luxury performance car that's questionably missing some luxury features ...
It better have a good exhaust to make up for lower numbers, at least be fun to drive and hear.

 

Given that top model tops out at $51K the Type S should land at $55K. I think this is a fair price especially if the car performs. It's good enough package. I qualify for loyalty rebates so that should put me in a good position....

 

Remote starter, folding mirrors, heated steering wheel, front deicer... Just a few I can remember. Why US is not getting these standard is beyond DUMB. I know Acura will add these at refresh but who the f**k wants to wait for that....

 

The lack of the surround cameras on the Type-S has basically sealed the deal that it won't be a vehicle of consideration when it's time for something new. The spot in my garage should barely fit the Type-S, but it needs to be parked perfectly every time otherwise that garage door is going to crash down on the rear bumper. I basically have two centimeters of clearance if parked perfectly. Those cameras would have been super handy to have for sure.

I have a feeling that the Remote Start FOB system can be added (at least they are doing in on 2019+ RDX ). Also, I think that you can also do it directly from the smartphone App (without extra hardware).
Anyway, I think that would take-care of these "heating issues".

 

I have them on the 2020 Audi-Q5-e. I've always wanted a car with them, and they are very cool. They work great in parking-lots (a little better that ultra-sonic Parking Sensors). Either of these are good to about 6 inches (15 cm).

For parking accuracy around 1-inch, I found I needed (inexpensive) parking-lasers on the ceiling of garage.

Additionally, you might want to analyze the feasibility of moving whatever it is that is preventing you from pulling-in another 6-12 inches.

 

It's unfortunate that the US does not get the winter weather equipment unless they go for the top trim. I already expected this though since the new RDX is "trimmed" exactly the same. This is still some good packaging for us Canadians. Quite a bit of features for a car that becomes approximately 58k-59k after tax, top of the line.

The RDX Platinum Elite is 55K MSRP, the 2021 TLX Platinum Elite is 51K MSRP. Very interesting as I remember the TLX being the more expensive offering at one point.

 

Unfortunately, I won't be able to move anything as the front is the staircase. I actually had to chop some of the width of the staircase to fit my current TLX. Any more chopping and it would be difficult to move up the stairs with things like grocery bags or bulky items. My wife has the larger spot as she drives the larger family vehicle. I thought of using lasers but it seems the reliability of these units are kind of hit and miss.
