Good question. I know you can get a ticket for too much tint in many states!

Any front window tint in New Jersey is illegal but, the enforcement on this offence has been generally hit or miss over the past few years.

I’m leaning towards the Advance package myself, but it’s a pretty expensive option. May I ask why you didn’t go with the Advance package? For those reading this who have the Advance package, are you glad you have it, and which of its features are the most worth it?

I'm very glad I leased the Advance AWD- it has many features the other trims do not. My favorites are:

Adaptive dampers
Heads up display
Power mirrors
Heated steering wheel
Surround view camera
Windshield de-icer

Living in New England the heated steering wheel and windshield de-icer are nice to have but not necessary in more temperate climates.

I preferred the look of the A-Spec over the Advance. If you want more luxury, definitely go with the Advance.

Funny, the features I most liked were the thigh-extension seats, better soundproofing, and highest end stereo! I do like the styling of the A spec, especially the colors and rims, but I’m more a luxury car guy who likes something a little sporty.

For what its worth, the A-Spec and Advance have identical audio (3D ELS) so no advantage there for the Advance trim.

I know that you weren't asking me directly but I was looking at both the Advance and the A-Spec and went with the A-Spec. For the features that you get for the money, the Advance is a much better choice. That said, several of those features weren't high on my bucket list and I preferred the look of the A-Spec over the Advance that I drove. I know a lot of people get excited about having a HUD, but we have one in my wife's CX-9 and I don't ever miss it when I'm driving in my other cars. My kids are out of high school and off to college (or beyond) and so backseat comfort of the heated seats isn't critical. I had power folding mirrors on my BMW and I never used them. They are great if you live in a really dense urban area or have to use tight parking spots, but they are not important where I live.

The surround view camera, adaptive dampers and heated steering wheel are things that I would have really liked. The heated steering wheel is a relatively easy add-on and I will get that switched before winter. I decided that I really didn't like the wood trim in the Advance (it was way too light for my liking) and I prefer the more blacked out approach of the A-Spec and decided that the two items I couldn't get were not worth sacrificing the look of the car and the extra couple grand. For anyone that isn't into black trim on cars, the Advance is definitely worth the money though.

Do they still have the state run annual inspection stations in NJ? Hated swapping parts in & out every year.

NJ doesn't require inspection for 5 years on a new car, then every other year at no cost. All they do now is plug into the obd2 and scan for codes. All the other checks stopped years ago. No more lines at the stations as a result. In and out.
