Apparently the key difference is the welcome lights keep working.

I came here just to see if this is still happening and at this point, it's comical. I haven't seen the MDX handles yet but heard they are great. looking back, I 100% would do the welcome lights again. If I hadn't, I would have had them added at my first oil change.

I've scheduled my puddle light for repair next Monday. I'll report what the process is. My SA told me a few weeks ago they don't need to change the entire mirror housing so I'll be curious what the process is and whether they have to destroy my PPF on that mirror for the fix.

After it is replaced, I am at the least going to have my PPF guy cut out some film circles and install over those lights. Worked for the guy who used Avery mailing labels!

I have had my puddle lights replaced several times and the PPF isn’t affected.

That's a good idea. Let us know the results after a few weeks/months.

You going to Johnston Acura, if so how do you rate the service dept? Im in eastern Iowa, and have been going to Peoria due to not the best experiences at Johnston.

Scott is the only guy I will work with at the service dept in Johnston. He's very honest and thorough. You could probably go to Billion Honda for most things. I've bought several cars from them since 1997 (never wanted to work with the Honda dealership in Des Moines) and had good dealings with the service dept as well.

Sorry I haven't followed up on this. They never got to my car at the last appointment with too many carryovers from the day before. I wasn't going to let them sit it on the lot overnight, so I went and picked it up. I do have it rescheduled for this Friday. My SA did call a tech over and said the PPF shouldn't be affected by the repair. I'll update if it does get done this Friday. I'll be meeting with my PPF guy the following Wednesday and I'll see about getting some circles installed over the lights at that time.

As KrylonBlue mentioned, I can now 2nd the fact that PPF is not affected by the puddle light replacement.

On a side note, I'm kinda curious why they use such a low Kelvin bulb in those puddle lights...seems it is around 2700K. With all the other lights in and out of the car being more in the 4500-5000K range, it just seems odd.

Any update?
I have a new to me ‘21 TLX that needs new puddle lights.
Do we know if there is a real fix for this.
my dealer is several hours away so I’m not inclined to make multiple trips.
Puddle lights are not critical but its the principle that they should work.
Thank you

No permanent fix. Just keep replacing as needed...

My SA has said that NOT one person has returned for a burned out puddle light once they have been replaced, at my dealership. He usually shoots me pretty straight, so I'll take him at his word for now. And interestingly enough, now one of the puddle lights is out on my RDX, which looks like the exact same part.

I have had to replace them 3x now but this newest part seems to be holding steady. Hoping for the best as my advisor also said it’s been much more reliable.

FWIW, I too have had mine replaced 3x. My SA did indicate that there is a new design and that my most recently replaced puddle lights are the new design. I take all info I get from the dealer with a grain of salt, but it has been almost 1 year since the puddle lights were replaced. So far, so good.

The technician who replaced mine a couple weeks ago shot a little video that gets sent to me online. In it, he said that Acura did improve the components and that they shouldn't break again. Not sure if he was just blowing smoke or not.

If Acura was smart, they should have dropped the puddle light offering. Now they have to scramble for spare parts for all owners since MY21!

If we were all Smart (owners, Acura and dealers), we would request the Welcome Lights installed in lieu of Puddle Light replacement. With the folding mirrors AND the Welcome Lights installed, I can’t even see the Puddle Lights illuminate …. And yes, both of mine still work (SoCal and mostly speed shine washes) since December 2022. Just my $0.02.

Supposedly this is true. I was told this by my friend who’s a service advisor and also the technician that always works on my car per request. It’s been months and many heavy storms with no issues since replacing them.

Finally got around to getting mine replaced after waiting for 2 years. They used part # 34761-TZ3-A02, so we'll see how well these hold up.

So after 9 months my driver light is out. So much for "new and improved" design.

Had mine replaced by Bob Lindsay Acura in Peoria, IL. Little bit of a difficulty - called in to schedule maint. + puddle lights. Tech didn't schedule the puddle lights when i got my confirmation email. Called in, they said yeah we can do it, no prob. Get there 'Oh hey, we are missing a part, you will have to come back'. 4 hr round trip drive. Calls next day, has the part (of course). Got this all squared away beginning of December, puddle lights back in action. Just lost the driver side one yesterday during persistent rains we had. Love this car, but man, these puddle lights are something else....

My 2023/TLX/ASPEC Puddle lights went out last week
Car is 8 months old
Went by the Dealer service on Saturday; have known the Tech for 10 years
He claims, they've been on back-order for months, & that it's NOT
a Water/Car Wash problem
Thinks, it's a design flaw; waiting for an Acura Software upgrade
We'll see

And mine are out again after a few months. So, unless they come out with a new design or part number, don't expect them to last.

Dang, talk about rotten luck. I wonder if that one guy who claimed that "these problems are not common" has changed his tune by now.

Got my puddle light on pass. side replaced last week when I got my A1 service done. If this is the only problem I will have with this car, then I really don't care.

Picked up my 2024 Type S in late December. The puddle lights worked for a couple days, then flickered, and now not working at all LoL…

So much for the new design they said would fix the issue. Seems to be a hit and miss with some owners.

Anyone know of a safe way to remove the mirror? Seems like the trickiest part about swapping the bulbs is getting the mirror off without breaking it.

Tell me about it my passenger side went out yet again, it was funny the first few times but now I'm starting to get annoyed with these always going out.

I need my dealership and Acura to put out a permanent fix.

The MY24 MMC is already out so if there was a permanent fix, dealerships should already have the better part, no?

Time will tell but something tells me the MY24 won't have it either!

The best “fix” in my book is the installation of the Welcome Lights under each door. They illuminate as you approach the car and light up much more than puddle lights with mirrors retracted.

So much so that I didn’t even notice my driver side puddle light went out …..😩

Welcome Light

$215*

When the vehicle is unlocked, white LED Welcome Lights illuminate the ground for added visibility.

The addition of these welcome lights as standard would only match the luxury makes they pine to be!
