I Have Became A Victim - Type-S Stolen

Well I got up this morning thinking I was gonna take the TLX-S to work this morning.

And to my unpleasant surprise the car is no longer there in the parking spot I parked it in. No glass broken or anything, just empty parking spot where it was.

Already got insurance and police involved. Not how I planned my morning nor how I planned to part ways with the car.

I already verified it wasn't towed my HOA knows my car and only tows for cars that are parked with no tags on them.

Dang, sorry to hear. Did you have a kill switch or any other anti theft devices on it?

Very sorry to hear. I hate thieves. May Karma deal swiftly and harshly with them! Hope it all works out to your advantage.

No kill switch unfortunately

I never thought I would need one but also I didn't like the notion of having to spend money on extra anti-theft devices to keep my car safe

Acura/Honda should not even have had a weak anti-theft system in the first place

Sorry to hear that. Any tracking devices installed besides the AcuraLink (AirTag, Acura Plus Locate, etc)?

That's fair, although you never know these days with keyless start. That's why I hide a cheap and simple $10 toggle switch that's tied to either the ignition, starter, or fuel pump fuse in all my cars as cheap insurance.

Well damn, now I feel bad for forgetting to respond to your reply: https://acurazine.com/forums/6g-tlx-.../#post16905490

Its all good I look at it like this, the thieves must have liked the car more than I did. So I am going to let insurance do their thing and start shopping soon

So sorry to hear this! Hopefully insurance does you right if/when the time comes. When my S2000 was stolen back in the early 2010s … that took a piece of my heart. So much so I hoped it was never recovered… for fear of the car being trashed. I still haven’t recovered from that loss. Good luck

Very sorry to hear that. How far was your car parked from your house ? Did you place your key fobs inside a RF shielding pouch when inside your house ?

it was parked maybe 150-200 feet away from my house. My key fobs were not in a RF Shielding pouch admittedly.

My insurance wants to attempt to find the car for 2 weeks before deeming it a total loss. What a waste of damn time, the car is gone the thieves are professional and probably will strip the car.

Like I said in the other thread, so sorry that this happened. I have only been here for a few months, but it's going to be so weird not seeing you post hear. And it sucks that your last few posts will be about this.

In that case they could've used a relay to steal your key signal, or they could've stolen the signal if you locked your car with the fob instead of tapping the door handle.
If it's anything like Canada, they won't strip the car but rather ship it to West Africa via Port of Montreal (where the police have no jurisdiction and the port authority take days to respond to requests).

That sucks and sorry to hear! As I had shared in the other thread Acura/Honda are getting stolen left and right in my area, so much so that I have been hanging on to my old Acura* and really mulling over what my next ride will be. Most people can get through life never having this happen or even knowing someone who this has happened to but not here, multiple people so far and a few weeks ago it happened to another friend and while they didn't get away with the car they did some damage that needed repairing. And when the person was having trouble with their car they moved on to another and was able to boost that one. The police caught them just recently and it was a 15 year old.

*Not contradictory, as while it runs fine it has many paint blemishes and battle scars so it is not an attractive target.

Yeah sometimes they get "lucky" and it gets recovered after a chase or found dumped after joyrides. But usually it's in awful condition by then and most likely still a loss.

I'll still hang around & I'll always love Acura and remember where I came from

But as for my TLX's replacement, it will not be another Acura. I am ready to experience a different platform tbh.

Judging by the toll bill I just received that I know I didn't drive through, the losers are taking my car upstate I think... I already alerted the police to this new detail. This is so wild

Sorry to hear that. This is far too common with Acura (remember the Canadian theft ring?). Would you consider leaving the brand?

I am leaving the brand, I love the TLX Type-S and it was a beautiful car I owned but all I have know has been Acura and mainly TLXs. I would love a NSX but not in a place to drop $100k+ on a 2 door super car with no garage parking. With that being said, I want to try a different platform. Going to go German, I already own a 1998 BMW 7 Series and I have been impressed with it after a year of ownership (its age and mechanical needs that I have been fixing along the way notwithstanding). So now I want a modern BMW

Won't be going electric style like @F23A4 did but I will be joining the ranks with a modern BMW

As I said earlier, I may circle the block later on down the line and get a PMC Type-S but for now other platforms await me.

Sorry you lost the car. I was also like you in the Acura ecosystem for a long time. Try and test out a B9 gen S5 CPO if you can find one. It will help you recover a little faster (no pun intended).

The new B10 gen a step back and the B9/9.5 are a great value price wise.

My former co-worker has a 2020 Audi S6 and took me for a spin it. Thats a quick car! His car is fast, sounds good, and with the prestige trim of it to boot, it was fully loaded and techy.

The only Audi's that interest me would really be the R8 and maybe the RS5. Great looking cars but they don't tickle my fancy per se, I'd probably purchase an AMG before an Audi S or RS model tbh.

AMG or RS would be a big leap up from the Acura. Can't say I would opt for either as a daily driver but would definitely enjoy both quite a bit (although I have thought some about an RS5). The R8........ Definitely sounds like you are wanting step up several levels in performance for a replacement.

Im not at R8 levels of money....yet. But I don't want to make any lateral moves so im looking at BMW M or Mercedes-AMG just because my 7 Series will be my daily driver so anything I get will be more so a weekend car and a when I feel like driving it kinda car.

UGH!!! Just now seeing this thread. So sorry man!! I figured I was on borrowed time with my A-Spec and had to pull the trade trigger

Re: BMW, I was actually looking to get an M440i xDrive but opted for the i4 M50 due to my employer's return to office mandate which came with heavily subsidized parking in Jersey City. So, my commute cost is only $150/month and I get to use my permit to park/ride into NYC at any time. (Side benefit of the i4 is that NO ONE is going to steal this 5,000 lb trackable pig!! )

That said, agree with geewiss and was just checking out an M440i last week as something to replace my totaled Accord.

Yeah I was talking with my buddy who's also a BMW sales rep and he told me the BMWs are way more harder to steal than Acuras are. Which is another reason why I want to go with a BMW. Very disappointing that Acura doesn't have a more effective Anti-Theft system from factory

Both BMW and Mercedes. The keyfob requires quite a bit of shaking or movement before it will emit any signal.

I'm looking to get a used M340i myself as a 2nd BMW. I have seen pics of the next gen in camo and it reminds me of the Accord if I'm being honest!

Used CPO but debating if I should look for one that is pre-LCI vs LCI. BMW does tend to remove stuff as the model years advance.

The MY25 of the G45 (X3) had audio capability in the USB connection but the current MY26 they've already removed that capability (the G45 won't see the LCI until MY28 at the earliest)!

There's been an recent uptick in the Acura thefts lately. Thieves now have access to the cloning device that lets them clone your key fob and start your car from the OBD port. In my area they force their way into the car via broken window or broken door handle and access the OBD port and start the vehicle with the cloning device. I wish Acura would address the issue before it explodes into a KIA/Hyundai type epidemic. Good luck with your situation and I suggest we all add some additional thief precautions.

Soon but I have 99% certainty it will not be a M340i xDrive I drove that car shortly before buying my TLX-S in 2023.

I am going for the next level, a true upgrade from my Type-S.... you'll see soon

Also, my Insurance declared my TLX-S a total loss today and will be moving forward with a settlement to pay off the loan, give me some kickback and allow me to finally move forward with getting another car. Looking to be in something else by early-mid January at the earliest.

I thought the most popular method was the relay attack that repeats your keyfob signal (no broken anything)?

IGLA and be done with it. When I had mine installed, the installer also relocated the OBDII port and installed a dummy port in the OE location for free.

Also, my Insurance declared my TLX-S a total loss today and will be moving forward with a settlement to pay off the loan, give me some kickback and allow me to finally move forward with getting another car. Looking to be in something else by early-mid January at the earliest.
Hmmmm....true upgrade. I like that. Someone grabbing a 911?
