Did you get an emission testing letter?
Just received a letter from a company (through Honda) that my Acura has been randomly selected for voluntary emissions testing in Michigan.
They want my car for 4 weeks, and maybe more.
I’ll get a similarly-sized rental car, and a check for $450.
I’m leaning against it. They give no indication how many treadmill miles they will put on my car and I’m right on pace for my allowed 45,000 lease miles. And I don’t know what they’ll stick me with for a rental.
Has anyone done this?

that thought crossed my mind. But I think it’s legit. Here’s the company website…

I would refuse this voluntary process. Car is fairly new and should have already passed emissions testing during development phase. A few weeks is a long time, especially for a lease and mileage charged on return.

They're legit and have scan tools on the market so they could be doing this for a few reasons e.g. for their own development of tools, contracted by Honda/Acura to ensure the emissions and oboard diagnostics are functioning as designed and as advertised, etc. And with stricter CAFE regulations on the horizon I imagine more of these requests went out (and I imagine the response rate is low).

I wouldn’t even give this a second though. Move on.

$450
I wouldn't do it even for $4500. There is no way to know what and how they'll drive it, how many of them or under what conditions. Emissions testing? How about starting it cold and revving the shit out of it to get cold start emission numbers. Just one of 1000 scenarios I can come up with. $450 LOL!!!
I'd probably do it for $45000 though.
