Departing....Not Fully :/

After being with Acura for about 18 years it’s time for my departure onto a different road. I waited a very long time for Acura to change, be more driver oriented and to give us what we ask for, it just didn’t happen. The new TLX was hyped up again just like the 15 model which I also owned and it turned out to be something I wasn’t looking for. I was holding out for the Type S but with the price range close to 60k for maybe a 4300 lbs car….it’s not worth it in my opinion. The prices also went up for these cars, the dealer told me what I had to put down and pay I was like in my 18 years of coming here I never had to hear numbers like this. I always get the first year model as soon as it comes out to. I’m going to miss Acura and who knows if things change I may come back but they will need to make a huge change. I called my dealer and said he can go ahead and sell the blue aspec that was on hold for me. He couldn’t budge on the price so I said this car is not worth what you’re asking for and I would need to put at least 2k of parts into it for it to drive nearly how I want it to, also they removed the thigh extension which I grew to love lol I know it’s a little gripe. My Wife still has the RDX Ktuned moves really good but top end is not exciting. I also own a 2.4 TLX which has never seen the dealer or had any problems. Well.......for what everyone is waiting for, I ended up going to BMW and signing for an M240xi. Got long beach blue with red interior, this little car is a rocket and I spoke to 04WDPSEDAN on here who is really nice and a helpful person. He told me about the reflash which I will do and It will push me into the 400 range. The funny thing is this 240i is the SAME price as the TLX lease, so it’s eyes closed what to go with. Should have the car in about 4-6 weeks they have to build it. I gave my brother all of my parts since he has an aspec to and he is debating to take my racing wheels or not, I don’t think I will use them on the 240.

Good luck with the BMW. It's a nice - but small - car. Did you get the coupe or the "Gran Sport" ?
My father in law went from a MB CLS to the 2-series, had it for three years (M235i I think).
Compared to my 5-series, I think the 2-series is a much more "pure" BMW, but it's kind of cheap inside (IMHO).
Then again, Honda/Acura cost-cutting/built in Alabama/Ohio....

I think he bought the latest 240, not the previous-gen? Interior is much better now.

The GC is an M235, not M240 so I imagine he got the coupe.

Congrats on the M240i! It's a great car, so good that it makes you wonder if the M2 is actually worth the extra $10K if you don't track it often. With a tune it puts out as much (if not more) power than the M2.

Congrats on the new car! I keep coming back to the M340i. Just so long as BMW keeps their promise and they don't start using those massive grilles on other models outside the 4-series, I could make the plunge and finally break my promise to my 20-something yr old self of never owning a European vehicle.

To be fair, are any M-cars really worth it if you don't track them? Their M-sport variants are plenty for the street and don't beat you up as much on daily drives. M340i, M550i, X5 M50 M, X3 M40i, etc etc. Usually the biggest complaints about the M cars are their awful ride quality, while these variants don't have quite the same complaints while giving you ~85% of the performance, more than what you will ever really need on the street. First mod I'd do on any BMW tho is change out the thermostat, as BMW likes to run their engines extra hot ... if it's even available. I know it's a "mod" on the F90 M5.

I'd say the X3M is worth the upgrade over the X3 M40i even if you don't track it (honestly, can't imagine that many people would want to track a crossover...). The price differential isn't that big, but the power difference is.

For whatever reason, the X3M gets the biggest criticism for its ride. The performance it offers is astounding, that S58 is friggin' incredible, but every review I've seen has talked about how the ride is unbearable. Surprising seeing as it's a crossover. The most common complaint is that even in Comfort mode, it's far too harsh for daily driving. With the awful roads in NY, I don't think I could live with that compromise. Throw a tune in an X3 M40i and I'd be happy. That X3M is bonkers though ... just wish they had given it a more compliant ride ... and I had $80k laying around to spend on one, lol.

The ride in our new Audi-Q5-e is great.
Wife was driving-us around yesterday. Very smooth and quiet (even on bad under-construction roads) . It's like you are in a quiet bubble. She doesn't even slow down for the neighborhood or parking lot speed-bumps any more ... because you barely feel them. I guess it's ok (not going to break anything). But her favorite feature is quickness and all the power/speed you need on-demand.

Got it in May and still haven't filled-up the gas-tank a second time.

Most on Xbimmers say the ride quality on the X3M is harsh. I can tell you between all 3 versions (xdrive30i, M40i and X3M) the best quality ride is with the xdrive30i. My M40i has 20 inch wheels but the suspension is a bit stiffer vs my xdrive30i so the ride isn't as comfortable but because it has cooled seats, the seats make it feel less harsh vs the sport seats in my xdrive30i. I test drove the X3M and it was a bit too stiff for my liking but the power was insane. You can get the xdrive30i and X3 M40i with adaptive suspension (I haven't tried) which most on the forums and Facebook group say it's a better ride vs the standard suspension. That is the only option I don't have on my M40i. I have a reflash tune done to both of my X3's and as I told OP, my M40i puts down 418 TQ to all 4 wheels which is brutal when you do a launch control. If I do a catted down pipe with another reflash tune I would just about break 400 whp and about 445 wtq. I'm still under warranty with extended warranty so I won't be doing it anytime soon.

Acura already said it will start at 52-54K for the type-s. No idea with what options but as of now we know it's not going to come fully loaded.. So yes, it will be OVER 60K once you factor in taxes, plates, reg ect. Not sure why you think the numbers are exaggerated since you've been fairly active in all these TLX threads.

From Car and Driver
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a3...a-tlx-pricing/
Acura is charging a lot more for the new version of its TLX sedan, as the sports sedan's starting price jumps $4500 over its predecessor. The base 2021 Acura TLX 2.0T starts at $38,525 and ranges up to nearly $50,000 when fully loaded, reflecting its extra power, features, and more stylish looks compared with the previous TLX. Acura isn't providing official pricing yet for the performance-oriented TLX Type S, which won't go on sale until next year, but claims it will start in the low-$50,000 range.

Man, maybe I should just go back to 2-dr. coupes. That BMW 2-dr looks sweet.
Saw a newer Audi A5 coupe at the stop-light the other day. Talk about nice.

Even if at 54k, as soon as you add shipping it hits 56k, that becomes awfully close to 60k. That's also if Acura includes good tires, if not you're knocking on 60k without any dealer "extra fees" or taxes.

+1. Yea I don't think a family sedan is really comparable to a compact hot coupe. The only coupe you can buy from Acura is the NSX.

Anyways, congrats on the new car - the 2 series is a great driver's car and the M240i is a rocket!

The Type S comes in one trim I believe. If we include taxes and fees etc, all cars will be inflated a lot in price too. And that also depends on where exactly you live. So not sure if it makes much sense to include taxes and what not into the discussion. The M240i xdrive starts at $48k and with options gonna be $55k. Including taxes and fees and now we are looking at over $60k.

Forgot to ask, Did you signup for the Greer SC BMW Performance Center delivery program? Car comes off the boat in Charleston & is shipped to Greer. You & 1 guest get comped a day at the driving school in one of their cars that is identical to yours along with hotel & meals. You can then knock out a big chunk of the 1200 mile break-in on the drive home.

Acura says low to mid $50k. Seeing as the SH-AWD Advance is right at $50k without options, I’d say it’ll be closer to right in the middle. I honestly don’t see there being a shot at shit at it being anywhere under $54k for everything it comes with over the more pedestrian models. New engine, beefed up transmission, re-tuned suspension, new wheels, different body kit ... Hell, an Advance with a body kit and those painted crappy wheels comes out to like $53k. Much like the initial 2G TLX release, I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed with the pricing. For all it’s offering and what you can option a 2G TLX with now, I can absolutely see it getting very near $60k before any options. Really, just think about it. Do you honestly think you’re getting all that for $3-4K?

And just some more food for thought, BMW has about a $13k upcharge for the M340i over the 330i. So I can definitely see Acura looking for $8-10k over the A-Spec model ($47k).

Thanks Everyone, I decided to go with the 240 and not the 340 for a couple of reasons. 98% of the time I’m driving alone, if the kids come out I use the RDX and I’ve been looking at this car for 1 year watching reviews and trying to convince my self the type s will be better lol. My whole family own Acura’s and they are not into all the handling and speed that we all look for, based on the reviews which there is not a single bad one about this car and I wanted to start small then my next lease will be the 340….if they don’t have those ugly grills by then lol also I can’t wait to get the ZF8……never again in my life the ZF9 lol. The new TLX I would need to change the downpipe, intercooler, charge pipes and install a flex fuel kit to get it to have some decent amount of power and still the downfall will be the 10speed which at time can be slow and also hunts for gears. 04wdpsedan is teasing with those pics lol and yup counting down the days to rip it up and def mod it. I still love Acura, it’s like getting a divorce but you still owe alimony through the years lol. Also they didn’t tell me anything about the racing school, I did so much street racing in the past with my supercharged TL I got it out of my system……..well until this new car comes lol. By they way not fair the new MDX gets a V6 and 10speed ☹

I really hope Acura surprises everyone and the Type S comes out a winner. The Dealer told me it will be over 4k lbs and even he is waiting to see how it performs.

It's been said many times before that the Type-s will no longer come with all options. It's very likely by the time you add a few things, you'd be right at 60K. That's a big no for a TLX-S. However for the new MDX, 60K is worth the cost. As I said, everyone pays taxes. Anyone with common sense will factor that into the price because you pay for it.

You must be the only person that doesn't factor such additional costs? Do they magically disappear just for you?

Stop being an idiot Nexx. Enough already.

Fair enough from hence forth we will always quote TT&L with car prices, lol.

That's why we always talk about OTD prices. It's not exactly anything new. That also helps account for market adjustments, incentives, discounts, etc.

At least one person got a pretty decent discount off a 2G TLX, so that's promising. Maybe it is Acura's tactic to raise the sticker price, but allow for more wiggle room for dealers to give discounts so people feel happier about their purchase thinking they got a "good deal." Hopefully the Type-S follows the same trend, but that'll depend largely on the production numbers.

Sorry for hijacking.

Expect you car salesman hope the buyer will forget about, or seperate in their minds, what might be a extra two thousand when quoting a price. You have to pay the full boat so why not list it here when you are quoting deals.

Sort of like mail order stuff that has a big price off at $20 then the add $15 shipping handling & tax or a car dealer adding the BS $500 or so handling charge for their paperwork. Whatever comes out of my pocket is the "real price"

If you mean this ...

Sounds like another Lease to Acura Lease conversion (barely-committal temporarily rental) ... so she got the Lease incentives. Plus, don't assume Sticker was close to MSRP.

ACURA blew it big time. Rather than try and exceed BMW etc. with an entry level sports sedan, they decided to simply stay with the crowd. $48,000 for a A-spec with 272 Hp and mediocre test reviews? No thanks. Factor in State Sales tax etc. and it's nearly a $54,000 car. NO Thanks. Instead Acura should have given the base model 272 Hp and the A-Spec and advance with 325 Hp & Type S 400 Hp. They will not attract any buyers with an A-spec that looks very sharp and low Hp. It's a joke. As an Acura service Tech told me: Acura just doesn't believe in giving their cars more Hp. All the sales personnel know they are getting killed by other manufacturers.

I'm not one to buy base-trim models of any new car. However, with Acuras ... I never could really afford an Advance (sometimes up to $10k more). Tech-Package with SH-AWD vehicles are more my speed.

But ever since the TLX trim-matrixes were published ... I was surprised to find out this A-Spec version that everyone seem to be talking about ... was just an appearance package (and some final Tech now missing from real Tech-Package).

I don't know if the official sales number matches, but I feel like I see more 1G TLX A-Specs than all the other trim levels combined. Just goes to show...people are willing to pay a premium for looks even if it doesn't actually bring much else to the table. As someone else once put it, A-Spec is just Poser-Spec. I will say, though, in the 1G TLX it does look good, especially the round exhaust valences in the rear bumper.

And I don't think it's just an Acura customer thing. Most Audi's I see seem to have the S-Line package, which is by and large just an appearance package. Ditto with Mercedes's AMG-line package.

At least Acura hasn't started offering a glowing A emblem on the front of the car like Mercedes and Audi have...

Yea I'm not sure if acura would even allow you to add any options on the Type S. Now, if the Type S does allow for all the options, and it performs well, then I don't think $60k MSRP before taxes is that bad. That's about $10k less than the other fully loaded models.

I definitely agree that everyone pays taxes. I'm not from the US, but my concern about that is that some states the combined taxes could be less than 5% like alaska, hawaii, maine, etc, and some states you are paying close to 10% like in Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, etc. That difference for a $55k car is like $3k difference.

Or may be it's just COVID adjustment haha.

1. Ok, never mind ... it's cool with me again (just kidding). But seriously, isn't it only like $500 for lots of interior upgrades? They just charge you the difference. Acura charges like all the old stuff went in the dumpster.

2. Not sure to which you are referring. I've seen some lighted front-grill Audi rings, but I thought those were after-market.

Ah, you're right, it appears they are aftermarket and not a factory option.
